Homosexuality and DDR

Honestly.... it's the guys that call guys gay that are messed up. I think it's great that there's guys that do this. I believe it's more of a guy game anyhow. Gay never once came to mind. Ignore them. If you listen to everything they say you're life's gonna suck.

The theme of this thread is ironic to me considering my straight friend is the one who got me into the game. Oh well, screw them assholes. Just give them the beatdown if they talk smack again.

Well, I get called gay in places other than the DDR machine, but not so much on DDR.

And if someone insults me on the DDR machine I (judge whether or not I could beat them, then) just challenge them.

I rarely run into harassment *which is understandable since i'm 6'3"-ish and weight 230,* but when i used to i'd just ignore it.

People are ignorant and always look to put others down to make them feel better. You just have to learn to deal with it.

Oh yeah, the funny part is that i am gay, so if someone calls me a gay or a cigarette it always leads to iinteresting... well, no it doesn't, because it just doesn't happen to me anymore. :X

well.. ive never been in an incident where ive been called gay just because i play ddr. But those people that called you gay must either

1 have no life and envy you for your great skill

2 are gay themselves and seraching...
3 think that ddr means when you play you are actually dancing
4 thinking that you are dancing and they think you are a freak
5 they think that stepping on pink arrows is gay well too bad for them
you have permission to punch them if they do it again. tell them to go F*** themselves (wait dont give them any ideas)

I was playing DDR game with a bunch of friends, and one girl that was there had brought her cousin from Miami with her, and the cousin commented that we would be called gay if we played this in Miami.

Yeah, I sometimes get that whole "gay" thing - not just from DDR, but from my general love of brightly coloured clothes and dancing.

You've really got to wonder about people for whom this is an insult. Eddie Izzard said it best when he said

"I wouldn't mind if I was gay - it's just that I'm attracted to women. I like to think of myself as a lesbian trapped in a mans body. I'd prefer to be two lesbians trapped in a mans body, but I wasn't that lucky."

I feel the same - I wouldn't mind at all if I was gay, or bi (twice the market!), but it just so happens that I am attracted to women and not men.

"Gay" is a real back-firing insult - it doesn't insult the target at all, but advertises to anyone with half a brain that the insulter is an idiot.

(Not as useless an insult as "wanker", though. Let's face it, for anybody over fifteen that's like going up to a guy and shouting "Breather!")

Me and all my DDR friends have gotten all the crap you can get from people, FROM MY FRIENDS. Yeah. Well, live with it. I get crap like "that girl playing ddr is suck a dyke-whore". And of course I dont give a crap, but oh well. I mean, it is an insult to your feelings, but its some jackass that you shouldnt give a damn how they feel about you, because you dont even know him.

Well, I've noticed quite a few gay ddr players, not like sexuality really matters, in this case.

Who ever said DDR was a more of a guys game: It applys to both sexes, in fact, in japan, its quite popular with the ladies. Sure, guys are gonna be better, cuz of different hormone levels, but what the hey.

This is how I see it...

There is USUALLY two classes of people that play DDR.

1) Otaku: people that only play DDR just because its from Japan and it has J-pop music. These people let there anime obsession get out of hand so much that personal cleanilness goes unchecked. These people are the ones that usually get called "fags" or "homos" because quite frankly there weird looking and whatever is weird USUALLY draws negative attention from other people.

2) Gamers/Normal players: people that only play DDR for the challenge of the game. These people don't USUALLY play DDR for the music or because its from Japan, they play DDR/Bemani because simply they like the game. These people come from all blocks of life, sex, and race. I find it harder to make fun of these people because all there trying to do is enjoy the game.

Not enough close. Again, those hecklers are idiots.

Why do they say such things?
Actually there are many sound reasons that were already given - "gay" is a term for uncool, jealousy, idiots, etc. etc.

One thing I wanted to add is, how do you dance when these people are calling you names?
Again, not that it's too serious a matter and chances are it's really just dumb hecklers but is there any way you play DDR that could possibly make them say such things?
I'm saying this cuz one time I showed a video of a tourney to my cousin and there was one player that she was staring at hard and suddenly asked, "Is he gay?" due to the way he danced (she has some sort of gaydar being almost all her co-workers are).
