Okay, I think I figured it out. Either I didn't put in the correct files, or the slots on the machine or my memory card was filthy. I cleaned up the connections, and placed the files on the card again. Now I got link goodness
Another odd thing happened on the machine. When it said to pull out the memory card, I did so, but the message saying to pull it out didn't go away. When it went back to the title screen, I put in the card, but the bottom didn't say INSERTED. I took it out of the slot and played another game. Before I started, the game said it was accessing the memory card, even though none was inserted. After a minute, it started normally without the grades showing on the right side. After my game was over, it said to pull out the card. Again, no card was in the slot. Finally, after another game, a DANGER showed up on the bottom of the screen and everything was back to normal. My card worked again in the next turn.
I have no DexDrive, by the way. _________________

That's happend to me before. I didn't think much of it 'cause my link data was there along with my edits. As far as I've read however, I'd wait until it went back to the attraction screen to pull it out, no matter what it says. Safe bet. _________________

If your machine copies the edits to the flashcard, then just bring them in batches.
Otherwize, yes you are screwed. _________________

So if I have a PS1 memory card and I have no data on it at all can I just put it in the machine and have it create one for me? I forgot to say but I use a DDR Extreme machine if that makes any differance. _________________

DDR Extreme will do nothing with blank PS1 cards.

Are there any guides online about how Extreme arcade scores are saved into the link data file? I don't have 5th Mix JP to view the scores, and opening up the file in a hex editor just shows a list of songs that I've played followed by a bunch of values, the song list again and more values. |

So what do I do about the DDR Extreme machine? I saw someone save their personal scores to a PS1 memory card on a DDR Extreme machine and I was wondering how they did it. _________________

Check the first page and start reading where it says LINK DATA in big letters. Your answer is right there. |

Im waiting for ddr extreme to arrive. When i make an edit and use it at the arcade, and it saves, can i edit the edit at home and update the edit at the arcade? Will it just overwrite? or make a new file? Its not that big of a deal since the machine has 2 flash cards in the machine. _________________

The machine won't automatically save the edits into the flashcards (unless there's some option I never heard of). From what I've seen, the only way to put edits in the machine it through the operator menu. |

I don't have 5th Mix JP to view the scores, and opening up the file in a hex editor just shows a list of songs that I've played followed by a bunch of values, the song list again and more values. | Here's how it works, or at least what I can give you right now:
The text lines are just that - text descriptions used by 5th Mix to identify songs it won't ever recognize.
Each song record is 24 bytes long. The first byte is an index value that tells you what position you're at in the records, starting with '00'.
After that, there's three bytes for the letter grades (light/standard/heavy), and three four-byte sections for the grades themselves (in little-endian format). Last, there's six more bytes (three word pairs) for the max combo for the saved record (again, little-endian).
I'm doing this all from memory, so forgive me if it's wrong, but that'll at least get you on the right track. I may also be missing something, since all that only adds up to 22 bytes.
Doubles records are stored later on the card. The record storage size is 176 songs, so if you go 264 rows past the first singles record, you *may* start seeing the doubles records. I say *may*, because the storage format is indexed by song, regardless of whether or not you have records saved. Think of it like this: Code: | SINGLE *** DOUBLE
BAG 000 BAG
A 001
DIVE 002
003 V
MAX300 004
PSM 005 PSM
5.1.1. 006 5.1.1. | You played one round and played Bag, A, and then Dive (more deep & deeper style). Then you played another round of Doubles, and played V, Bag again, and then V again. Third round, you played Max300, Paranoia Survivor Max, and 5.1.1. (you really hate yourself. Finally, you play another round of doubles, with 5.1.1., Paranoia Survivor Max, and Bag.
If you did that, the above graph is how the records would be sorted. You'd have a line for bag, two blank 24-byte lines, and then a line for V. You've only made four records in doubles and six in single, but you've used seven spaces in both.
You should be able to figure it how from here if you take a look at it in a hex editor.
Note - This is only how it's done in Max/Max2/Extreme. 5th Mix has a somewhat different format, despite carrying almost the exact same information. _________________

you can turn that off.
I was asking if I make an edit at home, use it at the arcade, alter the edit at home, and use it in the arcade again, will it overwrite?
Is there a hack yet to take edits OFF and on to a PSX card? _________________

Cutriss, yesterday I made an edit for Paranoia Max, labeled it PF-PARAS, and uploaded it onto the Extreme machine near us. However, it didn't upload over the official steps, but just saved it as an edit. I used Extreme CS (a real copy) and named it like that. Any suggestions why it may not have worked? |

If you want to get rid of the other edit, you'll need the arcade operator to go into the service menu and delete it. EndOfTomo wrote: | Is there a hack yet to take edits OFF and on to a PSX card? | Only if you have access to the flashcard and an appropriate system to take a memory dump of it, and you'd have to extract the data by hand.
It's just easier to hand-code the edit, or find someone who made it originally that might still have it on a memory card. zdemigoth wrote: | Cutriss, yesterday I made an edit for Paranoia Max, labeled it PF-PARAS, and uploaded it onto the Extreme machine near us. Extreme doesn't seem to save any official step data to the flashcard, so there's nothing there to overwrite. _________________

I've played DDR for a very long time, but I am totally new to the memory card concept. Sorry if this sounds really newbie, lol.
The machine I want to use my card on is DDR Extreme in the arcade. I have a PSOne Memory card (which I wiped clean) and a DexDrive. I don't really care about editting my info etc, so I just use the InterAct DexPlorer (mainly because I don't know how to get PSXGameEdit program to "find" my memory card data (.GME file) plugged into my DexDrive (where is it? C Drive? D Drive? where?). Anyhow, I downloaded the link data and when I open the .GME file using either DexPlorer (or even PSXGameEdit) it has 6 files in there (two are actually the same thing? -- "CS 5th AM 5th"). Do I need to put all six (actually five since I can't put two of the same files on my card) files onto my memory card? Well, I did. I went to the arcade today with my memory card while the arcade was empty (cause I knew I wouldn't be knowing what I was doing lol). I wasn't exactly sure when to put in the card (after I put in my tokens? or before? after I hit start?) and where (I play on the second player pad, so I put it in the second player slot?). I couldn't get it to work, lol. Is the blue "inserted" word that appears after you insert the card easy to see? is there a noise confirmation of some sort? If someone could appease my inept obliviousness about it and give me a simple step by step procedure on what to do when approaching the machine (lol).
Questions I need answered overall:
1. How do I use PSXGameEdit to "find" my memory card plugged into my Dex Drive? (not as important) File ---> Open MemCardImage ---> Where?
2. Do I copy all six/five (??) items in the GME File onto my card for DDR Extreme?
3. When do I plug in the memory card into the machine?
4. If I play second player, do I still use the second player memory card slot?
Sorry I'm so dumb about it.
Thanks. |

Please be patient and read the FAQ on the first page...all your questions are answered there. Every last one.
Well, other than the PSXGameEdit question.
To read a memory card in PSXGameEdit, make sure your DexDrive is configured properly in PSXGameEdit, then Memcard->Read MC (Full).
Open MemCardImage is what you'd use if you had a .MC or .GME file on your computer that you wanted to load and write to a memory card. Open the image, and then Memcard->Write MC (Full). This will overwrite everything already existing on the memory card. _________________

I'll read it again... I guess, eh.. I guess I skimmed over it too quickly.
Edit:
Quote: | When the slots are set up properly in a DDR machine, the game's Attract Mode will feature an "advertisement" mentioning the fact that this DDR machine works with memory cards. If you don't see this ad, then your machine's slots are not set up properly. Also, after credits have been inserted but before the start button has been pressed, a notice message will appear across the DDR logo on the title screen, indicating that now is the time to insert your memory card.

I went back today, but it still didn't work. I put in my money.. put in the card but nothing happened My card isn't Sony though, so maybe that's the problem.
Can you answer me this, even if the card was completely blank would the machine still acknowledge it with the blue "inserted" words? If that's the case, then I know it's the card. I'll just have to get a Sony brand card. it looks exactly the same though, just says "Pelican Accessories" on it instead, kinda lame if that's the case. |
