Konami showed DDR Extreme (US) at E3 and so far, they've shown several new modes that will be used with the Eye Toy camera.

One of the modes, called "Watch Me Dance" allows the background to be replaced by live Eye Toy camera video. This can be helpful to freestylers who want to look at themselves while they dance to see how they look.

The other mode, "Clean the Screen" starts with a screen which becomes continuously covered by video noise. The screen continuously gets filled with "noise" unless the player keeps wiping the junk away. It is very challenging for the harder levels, but it makes for some interesting freestyle at the more standard difficulty levels.

Another mode is "Hands and Feet" where you are directed to wave your left hand and/or right hand while playing.

New songs include: Move Your Feet by Junior Senior, and Y.M.C.A.

This post will be edited as more information is revealed.

Wiping off the screen while playing? Sounds like it'll get a little tiring while playing some catas and 10 footers, but still an interesting idea...

I suppose it could be pretty interesting...
But, how would it look? I'm just trying to picture myself doing that in public, but I would still definetly try it. E1.gif

IMHO, I think that Extreme US + Eye Toy is gonna be pretty dumb. unless they can pull something off really nice with it and really work with it well, I doubt that the Eye Toy will pull through for it, but oh well. Sounds good to a lot of people, probably even sell a couple extra copies.

I honestly think that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If you could use eyetoy to put yourself as a background character and the game animates you using a program or something that would be cool. But to think of playing a 10 footer and also having to swing my arms here and there to apease the game to me is just DUMB. I'd rather have to hit 3 or 4 arrows at a time and use my hands that way. At least it would look cooler instead of making you look like an idiot. I mean DDR doesn't make you look the greatest anyway but that doesn't matter it's all about fun but making the fun look worse than it already does is bleh. We'll have to see how it turns out. I guess it will depend on how many hands I have to do with heavy songs.... what's everyone else's take on this?

The thing is, because of ps2 arrangement, the eyetoy probably won't be shooting from the best place, so you might have to swing your arms really high or low in the air. For myself, it would be low, because my arms, when dangling down would be a little above the life radar.

this sounds like an alternative to the different "motions" of the hands/arms. i dont know why. but i have a feeling it will make the tech player look even worse (or at least me)

This sounds like an interesting feature. I would be shocked to see how the eye toy would be used. Would be kinda hard concentrating on multiple things tho.

I think in that case, you could still enjoy Extreme the traditional way. EyeToy compatibility is simply another option. It's not going to make people who were not going to get the game in the first place suddenly run out and buy it. EyeToy is like SegaCD. It's going to take a while for software that will support it beyond the novelty factor.

IMO, it's a neat addition. Besides, I'm sure people get sick of buying SuperScopes and PowerGloves with only one game to use them on. E1.gif

I think the extra eyetoy option is meant for the casual players who play like once a month, or on parties (3 or 4 feet at most)... not for the cata-player.

Is going to be a game/pad bundle? Or game/EyeToy bundle?

Will it be released in July or September?
Edit: nevermind, this answered it:

For people who are saying that the Eye Toy thing sounds dumb, I've played it, and I really liked it. It makes DDR so much more interesting, now that you're forced to include hand motions in it. I had a great time freestyling to "Clean the Screen" Move Your Feet. E1.gif

sherl0k, on the other hand, tried to do a catastrophic song while on the "Clean the Screen" mode and failed miserably E15.gif

The Eye-Toy compatability is intriguing, but after reading the article, I'm getting a little concerned about how the song list in general is going to be. Even with these cool modes, this Extreme has a tough song list (jExtreme) to compete with to be worth my while, at least. So far we know about 6 songs in it right?

A Stupid Barber
Move Your Feet
YMCA
Can't Stop Falling in Love *Speedy Mix*
Mobo Moga
Sweet Sweet Heart Magic

So far I have nothing to look forward to aside from the nifty looking modes. I'm waiting until I hear more about the songs.

OH DEAR GOD THAT WAS INSANE. Yeah, trying to clear the screen while playing CSFIL Speed mix isn't something you can just do right off the bat from picking up the game. I'll have to post that video. Along with a couple others, too.

I think it would be kinda neat to point the eye toy at the pad, maybe from behind you, I think that would make it a little spacy, heh.

It seems very much so QuestionMark. But then again, Konami of America has been trying to Americanize Konami of Japan's enterprises and try to make it their own by simply changing the design and adding new songs(DDR for a prime example). Now I guess they're trying to combine them. Oh well, we'll see what the future holds in store for us. IMO-This will suck.
