Was there ever a point in the DDR series at which you think the game "Jumped the Shark?" (A point where the series began to fail/decline?)
A few possible things I can think of:
- Never jumped
- Jumped from day 1
- Solo
- Looooong versions (Oops I Did it Again, Hot Limit)
- DDR Max
- Captain Jack
- Not enough Captain Jack
- DDR Max 2
--- Oni
--- Little Boy: Boy ON Boy remix typo
--- Secret Rendez-Vous
- Irritating announcers
- Beginner Mode
- Knock-offs (Stepmania, DWI, Pump)
- Ultramix for X-Box
- Freeze Arrows
- Way too many remixes (Paranoias, Maxes, etc.)
- "Three Charactar" songs (B4U, D2R)
- Bag

it hasn't jumped the shark yet. things like long version and ultramix were certainly mistakes, but not enuogh to cause the downfall of the series.
i think i may be the only person in the world who likes Secret Rendez-vous (and Let them Move, and Love This Feelin'...) _________________

6th Mix wasn't great. I played it at the arcade for the first time yesterday (drove 100 miles to Sharon) and it kinda sucked.
Beginner, in my opinion, REALLY over-handicaps the game's difficulty. If you want to learn how to play, I think you should start on 1/2/3 foor light songs. Something about 4-year olds slamming on the pads on beginner, and passing, kinda irks me. The game isn't for toddlers who can't follow instructions. |

well, beginner mode was obviously created for people who aren't serious about playing the game and just want to try it once or twice. and it's not really cool to deny someone that privilege just because they aren't willing to try harder stuff.
6th mix is max, right? it was cool when it came out, but it's a little dated now. i thought the new scoring system introduced along with it was pretty innovative and a lot better than the prior one. _________________

Lol, good topic...and a good question.
1) Hasn't
2) DDR Max2 (must crank out another one, fast!)
3) DDR Extreme (quantity over quality liek wuht!)
4) DS Disney Rave (i like it, but it was too much of an attempt to go mainstream)
5) Max. (period), Paranoia -Respect-, Outer Limits (taking 10-footers to an unnessecary level) _________________

Although I like Konamix (SIX ARROWS, BABY!), it does seem to mark the downfall of DDR's purity. _________________

Before I even saw the choices, I was gonna say "Ultramix"... but since I can pretend it doesn't exist, it doesn't bother me. |

I really don't know why everyone hates Ultramix so much...it's just another game, and it's got some great songs. Castles in the Sky, MGS2, Ready Steady Go, etc. Good exclusives, that's for sure. |

secret rendezvous is good, but you definately are the ONLY one who likes Let them Move.
and on topic: i dont think its jumped the shark yet, but i may recant that statement if they ever make a song harder than PSMO, that would be just too damn hard. _________________

Two reasons: Yes, some of the new songs are good, but the steps just don't do it for me at all. And the way they milk people with the add-on packs is just plain slimy. |

I think it all started with Max. The new interface probably scared some people off who were too attached to the old-school style.
Too many remixes of the same song(s) probably had something to do with it too, especially ones that were made more for difficulty purposes than for listening quality, like PARANOiA survivor. PSM is even worse. Twenty more BPM and an extra ten seconds shouldn't qualify as a whole new remix.
Something I've noticed amongst some of my friends: Some people play solely to outdo each other in AAA's and such. This causes other people to get fed up with others and quit, because there was a time when people played just because it was fun. When superiority became an issue, there was just too much tension between people and some quit.
And yes, I like Secret Rendez-vous, Let Them Move, and Love This Feelin'. LTF is a great song to blast in the car. _________________

HO HO HO. SM andDWI are simulators, not knock offs. And I do believe Pump it up is a completely different game. Oh, and it came first ^o^ _________________

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

I know some people who are the ultra-competitive type in DDR, and they tend to be creepy as hell. Like when one calls me up, I thought it was just kinda to shoot the breeze/chat, and they end up agressievely lecturing me about the game, chided me for playing doubles, etcetera... sheesh. That kinda irked me. |

Personally, I don't find ten-footers all that fun. So I don't play them that much.
I don't think DDR has jumped the shark yet. Half the possible reasons listed above, I don't agree with (DDRMAX?! 6th MIX?! The version with the most enjoyable list of new songs, ever?! Are you crazy?!) and the other half wasn't forced on anybody (you don't have to play Long Versions or Ultramix if you don't want to, for example).
Personally at this point I think the worst thing that could happen to the series is another whole year going by without the announcement of a new arcade version. Unfortunately, I also think that's a likely scenario. Oh well.

...but wasn't 5th the first to use that kind of interface? Unless your talking about the scoring. |

I'm talking about the whole game in general, particularly in scoring and backgrounds. _________________

Jumped the Shark yet?
U.S. = No yet.
Japan = Most definitely yes
I don't think DDR is done for in Japan, I think DDR is going to be completely remade with a new look and cabinet. DDR is just taking a break for awhile. |
