Very inconvenient and the graphics arent as good
PC
FFXI = $50
Much easier to use and much better graphics

Case = $50
Mobo = $150
CPU = $150-$200
RAM = $100
Video Card = $75 (<-- for SEMI-DECENT)

New computer altogether = $1,200.

My computer blows, My PS2 will not. I'll take the PS2, thanks.

With a DMS3 or any other modchip, you MUST sleep it, or DNAS will prevent you from connecting to the game servers.

This obviously doesn't not apply to a fliptop/slide card.

there are many different opinions, but my friend says that he cant see any visual differences in the games, and i also want the HDD, and i dont like playing MMORPGS on the computer with the keyboard... especially the numpad. The controls on the computer piss me off.

this is kindof a bump... so ill let a double post slide...

I ordered the DMS3 from PSXTech, and he gave me the chip. Problem is, theres no wires. Im curious where is a good place to get these wires, or a normal ps2 repair shop would carry these wires.

It certainly is no beginner (or intermediate! Yipes!) level job, but maybe you could find someone locally to install it rather than send it back?

Well, today i recieved my cover from ps2fliptop.net
Everything was great except one thing (one thing that really annoys me disgust.gif )

Ok, on the actual disk lid, theres two little plastic "arms" that are attached into the flip top, this causes the hinge so the lid can open and close!

Well, one of my "arms" was snapped off, so every time i open the lid, the lid falls off the flip top. It is really annoying, I might rig up some unit to allow it to hinge while STAYING ON THE FLIP TOP blink.gif

Installation wasnt hard, the hardest part was finding a screwdriver small enough to unscrew the 4 screws on the CD tray and putting it ALL back together while making sure you dont pinch the reset/open ribbon (that would have been a BIG WHOOPSIE!!1!)

At first, i was putting in my disks above the lip, the disks werent spinning, i was all kinds of confused! I checked an installation tutorial and found out about that lip for when you load games with the vertical stand, All is good now!

Overall, it works great! swapping takes about 45 seconds (I am just dissatisfied with my stupid broken lid)

I cant wait to play some japanese max2 and extreme riiight.gif But for now, its bed time

Anyone know anyone locally from New York that does installs? I dont feel like shipping my system to CALI and I decided that the solder points are a bit too small, I dont want to mess them up.

Today i tried playing max2, i used the DVD disk, started it up, at the screen where it says "insert disk" i opened the lid but the disk was still spinning full speed! I reset it, it did the same, then i turned it off, put the disk back in and it worked. Odd?

Oh, and for the CD disk, i wanted to play party collection, at the screen where it says "load Program" I swapped disks with party collection, when i pressed X, the screen turned red for about 3 seconds, then the game loaded.

Are these normal? I mean, when the games started up, they were 100% fine! I am just wondering why the disks didnt stop sometimes.

Since about a month ago I have not been able to play My Japanese games, and any of my games with blue bottoms.(I.E. SSX, Sims, Crazy Taxi) The day before it happened it was fine and working smoothly. The next day I went to play DDR Extreme, and it didn't work. It said, "Please insert a PS or PS2 disk." Rarely that happens with the first few times and then it usually works right after, but I did it over and over again. Nothing. I called up Game Force (Where I sent it in to ge the mod chip in the first place) and they said, "It might have been out-dated. We have a new version that wont wear out."

Now those were not their exact words, but close to it. I don't have the money right now to give them my PS2 and then pay $100. So my question is,

Does anyone know what might have happened, and can I fix it without having to send it into a store and pay $100+?

-Thanks.

It would help if you gave some information on your PS2, like what modchip you have and what version PS2 you have.

Modchip I have no idea. How can I find out?

Version....I don't know where to find the version, but I can tell you the serial number and model number.

Serial: A U 0 6 6 8 2 1 7

Model No. SCPH-39001.

EDIT: Wait, are those what determines the version.

Where would the mod chip be placed inside the PS2? Can I open it up?

You can try opening it up, just be careful with the eject/reset ribbon. Whered you get the PS2 from? Have you been playing a lot of burnt games?

The modchip is on the motherboard, probaby double-side taped or glued down but by the way you are speaking I would not suggest opening anything up. Perhaps you are just booting up your games wrong.

NOTE *I decided to mod the system myself, I am about 30% done, got 7 wires soldered so far*

I got my PS2 at Taget, and I have not played any Burnt games.

. . .What do you mean by booting it up wrong? How can you boot it up wrong.? Maybe I am....

I am going to try putting Max 2 in, Extreme, and then Party, and then tell you what it does.

What makes you think you have a modchip then?

I got the PS2 at Target about 2 years ago, but I got the mod chip at Game Force. I lent them my PS2 and they installed the Modchip. The Japanese games worked, and I had no problems with the PS2 until now.

I played Max 2, Extreme, and Party mix. Here is what happened.

Max 2:
First try: Went straight to the Browser and System config screen. Nothing else after that.
Second try: Made noises(Was trying to read disk) and didn't go to the Browser/System congig screen after a short while, then said "Please indert a PS or PS2 disk."
Third try: Same as second.

Extreme:
Same as Second and third for Max 2.

Party Mix:
First time Went straight to Browser and said, "Disk read error."
Same for the second and third tires.

Now that I think about, it could because my PS2 is very dustly. Do you think the device that reads the disks could be dusty and unable to read any game with blue bottoms and Japanese game?

The PS2 is dusty on the outside(Just cleaned the outside) and so is the inside.

My guess:
Your PS2 cannot read CD's (PS1 and blue PS2 games) anymore, your mod chip does not work anymore, and your Max2 disc is dirty.

"Please insert a PS or PS2 disc" means that it read the disc but it was not allowed. This seems to mean that the mod chip isn't working.

Your CD based games, like your PS1 games and your Party Collection just plain don't read.

And your Max2 disc occasionally doesn't read.

I dunno what happened, but here's my guess:
http://www.richspsxparts.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1154
This tells how dirty discs can do in a modded PS2... read it for explanation

As for the modchip not working now, maybe it overheated and fried itself? I've heard that early Magic chips had heat problems, and if you have a dusty PS2 that could mean trouble.

My Max 2 is JP. It's not the USA version. Although I didn't mention PS1 games, I do sometimes have problems with them too. (Not Japanese ones.)

I guess I will save my money for a new PS2, and the modchip. Thanks to everyone who helped me. I appreciate it. E1.gif

I didn't say you had Max2 US. And I figured that if you couldn't run blue-backed games then you couldn't run PS1 games either.

...maybe I'm crazy, but I can't stand to be wrong.

Oh, I thought you were reffering to max 2 Us when I said it didn't work because I thought you thought that I only had extreme and party for JP.

Ah Never mind. I also can't stand being wrong. E1.gif

But you weren't wrong.
