Try running it without the last argument, "d:\steps\", and just let Dancing Monkeys create the files in the default location. _________________

Ok,
first off, hi to everyone since I'm new.
second,
I have the memory allocation error while running this program. Now I did check my virtual memory (1536mb) which seems like a good amount, but apparently it isn't. Question is, should I bump it up more?
I'm skeptical about doing that tho..
@maitines: that's the right line.. you just need to go over to column D and E. if you are using ultraedit, it will show you the column on the bottom status bar. |

Well, I found this useful, but not as useful as it could have been. Therefore I made it slightly more user friendly. I wrote a frontend for dancing monkeys.
Here it is
http://icywindow.100free.com/dancingmonkeysfrontend.zip
Shame it's about 8 mos after it was created, oh well.
Thnx,

Wow. I ran Mr. C.C. from KeyboardMania through DM the other night, with 5, 7, 9 as the difficulties as usual....and for Heavy it pulled an ITG on me: freeze, freeze, handplant. First time it's done that. Makes me wonder if DM doesn't actually get 'smarter' the more times it's used...
Mods, any chance this thread could be stickied? I have yet to see anyone on any forums that I know of post about or link to some other program that can do what DM does, and I think it's useful enough to anyone making a simfile that it'd be worth stickying. _________________

This program is AMAZING
I used a song that 4 BPM counters couldn't find the BPM for and 2 different tapping programs couldnt find the right BPM, yet the program did it effortlessly with BPM DEAD ON. o_O
The steps can be pretty repetitive but can leave a few surprises like a stop in the song (which was expertly placed, btw) .
Another thing I was really surprised at is that it shortens the songs to DDR length, which was very nice to see, but is there anyway to get it to make full versions?
The only question I have is why does it convert to .wav files?? Those are MUCH bigger than MP3's and are more annoying, lol.
I give this 2 thumbs up

Ok im attempting to run this program.
Im running it in the command prompt window, from the WIN32 directory.
Im using this command:
dancingmonkeys.exe "c:\dont.mp3" 3 5 8
Im not using an optut directory like half a dozen posts say not to.
I have a copy of dont.mp3 in the dancing monkeys\output directory.
Im STILL geting "WARNING: Unable to Output truncated version of song. Please copy original to output directory." " andCreated arrow patterns for each difficulty level. ERROR: Invalid fid." errors.
Im trying to do this with 'Dont mess around with Jim' by Jim Croce, which is a 3:02 song. I guess i should try to trim the song down myself.
Convert the mp3 to .wav and use a .wav editor to chop it, i assume?
Any other suggestions while i continue to plug away at this? |

Sounds like the music changes tempo in mid song and dancingmonkey doesnt like it. =/ Shame too cause Conjunction Junction would be a fun song. =)
Ok ive doen everything i could possibly think of. Putting input and output directories in quotes, putting them in low-level folders (c:\music), putting in a destination directory (followed by a \ of course) and without a directory, tryiing it on .mp3 and /wav versions.... Im freekin lost here..
I did notice when i run the program, right off the bat, i see this:
MS-DOS Version 5.00.500
Parse Error 9
Parse error 9? wth?
*cries* All i wanted was a program to acurately cacluate the bpm and Gap.. i can do the step patterns myself! I already made a light step pattern for the song, but when i play it it always feels off rhythm, and i don tthink i have the gap right. =( =( =(
Even before the program craps out with this silly error, it SAYS its caclulated the BPM and gap.... WELL WHAT ARE THEY? It should tell you right there what they are and not keep it hidden until it writes it to a completed output fule that DOESNT WORK...
/smashes chairs and sobs pitifully |

Unable to confidently find BPM means simply that the BPM is not constant during the song; therefore the algorithms that the program uses find that the bpm varies enough (+-2 bpm) that it cannot generate a stepfile for it.
Splunge: sounds like you're running an old arse ver of windows if you're loading up dos 5. Try win 98 or higher, or use my frontend.
Update on frontend: Someone's making my frontend better, adding batch support and possible mp3 reencode support, so get ready for an even easier time running DM!
