Hi, I'm the parent of three teens, two soft RedOctane Ignitions, and a doubles pack of Cobalt Fluxes.

My teens would like to start a DDR club at their high school using my pads and playstation equipment. They want to haul it up there and set it up to play once a week or so.

Question: Is this a good idea? Or am I asking for trouble?

My gut feeling is that most teens who play are reasonable, responsible, and won't intentionally harm my 'expensive' stuff. But I want some unbiased opinions.

Oh, my name is Cindy, and yes, I am a DDR addict too. (g)
(of course I could never compete with you all, since I'm just an old lady.)(g)

mmm it may hurt and it may not hurt...its hard to judge, it also depends on where you live.
i was trying to start a club at my school, and then one of my gym teachers noticed my ddrfreak shirt and talked to me about it, he really liked the idea and wants to buy some PS2s and 2 Cobalt Flux's for each PS2 to use in the gym classes, and is allowing me to use them for the club. so maybe approch a gym teacher about it

we have a club at our school where people bring in their own ddr soft pads and gaming consoles. it has worked ok so far, except for a lack of interest and management.

I've heard that RedOctane pads can break when used for high level play, or if heavy people use them. Since they cost so much, I wouldn't risk them.

It says somewhere in the CF manual (to my recollection, anyway) that playing in dirty shoes can damage the pad (since dirt can get between the contacts). Since they cost so much, I wouldn't risk them either. Plus they're heavy, and if guys are hauling them all over the place, they might drop them, and that's bad news. Plus the pad could be damaged/scratched/dirtied by being placed on dirty floors.

So I would say it's definately a bad idea.

Well I'm in college, and I know a few dorms that have communal pads (ranging from crappy to ignition) that have survived pretty well, but my experience is that even with the Red Octane Ignitions, if they see any really serious play (by which I mean consistent play on Heavy with heavy-footed players), they are generally not gonna last more than 6 months to a year. As for the CFs, my experience is that they are basically indestuctible (functionality-wise if nothing else). I have one in my room that a lot of people play and stomp on, and I haven't had any problems with it as of yet.

I guess my feeling would be that it would be ok as long as at least one person who knew the pads was around at least a large majority of the time, mostly to tell people not to wear shoes on the ignition pads. I certainly think it could work, and I only wish someone had thought to do that at my high school E4.gif . Have fun!

Well you have some Cobalt Fluxes pads, so you dont have to worry about teens breaking the pad.And ddr is considered a physical activity in some coleges. Its a great idea to start this club in my opinion.

Creating a DDR Club is somewhat good and bad in it's own ways,

It can be good for the DDR Dancers to come and join along but the bad can be having other people come in and heckle all your players. Which then a riot could errupt. Which that would then have the princible denounce the use of DDR at that school.

I happen to run the videogame club but I don't called the "DDR Club" but we do play DDR once in a while. Only time we would announce that for that week we'll be playing DDR is for when gamers wish to try something new or bring in the DDR Dancers for something to do.

So either way your gonna have some ups and downs one way or another but it's really up to them whether or not they want to risk having problems with just a DDR Club.

i'm surprised no one has yet posted about not damaged pads, but damaged people. you never know what kind of generally misguided evil person might show up and ruin the entire experience for everyone (deliberately destroy pads, mess up oni's/nonstops, etc)

hmm I think if the kids all know each other they'd probably be more careful (and since it's going to be a club it shouldn't be all that bad) Maybe they could work something out where different people could bring the equipment each week or something. It just seems more fair that way.

i started a DDR Club in my high school when i was a senior, and even now, two years later, it's still running strong. at first, it took a while for us to build our base, but once we got up and running, things went very well, and are still going well, so my friend (now president) tells me. we started with DDRMAX US, a PS2, and a pair of RedOctane pads. i would definitely encourage starting a DDR Club. i think it'll definitely be a welcome thing, and if you give it enough time, it'll definitely become very successful.

i just wish i had Cobalt Flux pads when i started my club. E15.gif

i was just wondering about your DDR club in high school

How many TV's & pads did you have once you built up the fan base?

How did your pads hold up during the club?

I'm trying to start my own and any advice you could give would be appreciated
Thx in advance....

I don't know for the Cobalt Flux, but for the ignition, bad idea. They are precision pads and if a bunch of kids just stomp the hell out of it they won't work as well as they would be supposed to. I lended my pads to a bunch of my friends and now out of 6 ddr pads I have 3 broken ( as 2 totally dead and 1 with an arrow that works 1 time out of 2 ) another one in bad condition ( around 5-6 pad miss or more on every song ) and 2 pads that gives boo randomly from time to time.... like my afronova with 0 great but 3 boos... or Silent hill 0 great 4 boos... on standard. Anyway, for people who are starting and might not care about the pads because they didn't pay for it, they need metal pads for sure.
