|
|
Hello All! A side effect from the development of SMOnline was SMLAN, and Insted of working our butt off to develop SMOnline, and then find thousands of bugs, we've decided to release parts of SMOnline as SMLAN.
SMLAN's primary purpose is to Sync up multiple computers over a LAN. This makes it possible for many more than two, or four people to play at once. Right now the server supports 32 Players MAX.
It works over the internet, only thing is you need to be in contact with the other person to ask what songs to play, and if you play courses, make sure they are the same length.
If you want to use this, you must use StepMania Alpha16. In the near future, the protocol for SMLAN (and SMOnline) may change, so none of this is set in stone.
If this interests you and you would like to download a copy to test yourself, please visit
http://cnlohr.net/smonline/lan and download 16WayV6.exe.
Then download StepManiaLauncher into your StepMania Program folder. Then if you wanna watch the players playing on the server (like for a realtime scoreboard) download PRESMOnline.exe, and run that.
There are more detailed instructions on the site.
Please post any questions in this thread. |

SMLAN can be played online. Just you have to tell your friend your IP address, you have to either not be behind a firewall or open up ports 8765 and 8766, and be incommuncication with them, so you can tell them which courses you want to play, what songs you want to play.
They have to connect to your IP address. |

SMLAN was designed for the LAN party Scene, All players who are playing must select the same song or course to play, and SMLAN's primary purpose is to sync the songs togeather. The reason for this is so it's trivial for something like someone on one comp to be playing a song doubles, and someone on the other comp to be playing versus and on another comp to play battle. If two people do not have the same songs, it'll wait for both people to select a song, and they'll both play different songs.
BUT since you'd already be at a lan party, why does it matter. You could just send the other person the file.
ALSO, if you get your song database from DDRUK and have most of the standard set of games, it wouldn't matter either, you could just chat over AIM.
But remember, this is just the precursor to SMOnline, which is going to be a much better system for online play. |

SMLAN was only designed for Synchronizing gameplay, like so you could have 3,4,5,6+ people all playing at once. You're not actually doing anyhting wrong, just as of now, you can only see how well everyone is doing if you run PRESMOnline and are watching it, on a diff compy or you can SM in a window.
It also lets you play courses across the internet and watch how both players are doing. |

Simply hiding behind a name doesn't stop anyone from finding your IP. If you use windows or linux, you can find an IP from a name by saying ping [the address].
If someone's address is me.noip.org or whatever you can say ping me.noip.org and it'll display their IP. |
