pd: about the matrix walk and the risk to break up the monitor.. well I don't think it could be broken with that, the CRT has vacuum inside.. so I suspect that it needs to be very hard to support atomspheric pressure.. if it (for some reason) breaks.. well I think It'll explode the same as a light tube, but having in mind the dimensions, it'll be a lot more explosion (or implosion??) I just don't think it could happen just by walking over it.. by the time that you (in the worst case) break the acrilic, most of the impact will be absorbed =P

I think the bigger danger of monitor damage by matrix walk is not actually cracking the glass of the CRT or the protector in front of it, but just the general jolt to the machine. When performed, the matrix walk is often equivalent to kicking the machine outright. This shock can knock things loose and cause internal damage. I've seen machines malfunction due to this kind of shock (disc read errors and monitor glitches like rolling or distorted picture come to mind).

There's another question I'd like to know.. (not just as a hobby, I'm one of the many that are planning to build my own arcade cabinet riiight.gif ) : The dimensions (inches?) and power (RMS) of the pair of speakers below and over the screen?

I think this and the other question about the monitor are somewhere on the arcade manual =P

^ I know. I'm just debating if I want to change that answer or list something like that under the bootleg section with the so called MegaMix.

I"m leaning towards bootlegging because it involves |-|4><0rz1ng T3|-| G1b50|\|.

Hey, I have a Megamix at my local arcade, but I've never seen someone play Oni here, they're all snivelling 12 year olds. laugh.gif But I could get some pictures of the Megamix machine if you want... don't count on it though, as the arcade is in a mall and such. But I'll TRY.

is anyone 100% certain on how to enable it on a machine upgraded from a 3rd mix korean to extreme? (i.e. what color service button do i hold- the red or the white?)
i'm running a tourney in 2 weeks so i would like to have event mode enabled for it.

The Coin options sections of the operator menu is where you need to go. You'll probably have to go in and out of it, changing settings each time.

I've never actually activated it, as the company I work for doesn't allow for it.

It should pop up eventually if you keep at it.

Actually, for Event Mode you need to place the machine in Free Play (which is in the Coin Options menu as YM stated). But to activate Event Mode, you need to hold the service credit button when you return to Game Mode.

The complete process:
Access the operator menus
Go to Coin Options
Set Free Play
Return to main operator menu
Move selector down to Game Mode
Press and hold the service credit button while you
Press the 1P green start button to return to Game Mode
...
You should now be in Event Mode

It's been awhile since I've been inside a Korean cabinet, so I can't remember off-hand which is the service credit button. However, it's easy to figure out as it would be the other button that you didn't use to enter the operator menus. :)

Just got my own 8th mix machine off ebay (yay!) and I've got two questions about it.

1. If I go to the Game Options menu, there's no option for "fail during song". Not a big deal since I like autofail on, but I found that kind of odd. Is this normal for an 8th mix machine?

2. The top speakers crackle slightly, and when they do, there's a little bit of screen static. You don't notice it at all when playing, so it doesn't really bother me, but it would be neat to get rid of. This doesn't happen if I run the machine without the top marquee/speakers connected, so I suspect it's something with the connection there. Ideas?

BobZ:
1. I need to double check but I think it's listed as fail at end of song.

2. A couple things you can try with this are: turning the upper speakers volume down, check your wiring for breaks/shorts. Remember that spekers run on magnets, and if you have them too close (or rarely too loud) they'll distort a monitor.

1. I've seen several different versions of Extreme bootlegs. Some have it...some don't. I believe the official Konami kit has it, but I have yet to see one in person. You'd have to ask someone who has to confirm.

2. Yeah, sounds like a loose connection or a short somewhere. Check your connections, especially up to the marquee speakers and the audio cables going into the system unit and the amplifier unit. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

I've seen this done a couple times before, but I wanted to get some more info on how to do it.

At a couple tournaments I've entered, the owner of the machine was able to hook up big speakers to the game, so there would be some booming sound. This was done also because two of the speakers on the machine were out.

When I was working on the local machine for my tournament in January and April, I didn't see anything that made it possible for extra speakers to be hooked up. Where do I look? Just for the record, the machine that I was working on was a Third2 upgraded to Max2 then upgraded to Extreme. The machines that hooked up the extra speakers were Third2 upgraded to Max2.

Thanks. If I can get the info, then I can ask the tournament organizer whether I can use his big sound system in my next tourney.

I have no idea what you mean by "Third2" except perhaps a very strange abbeviation for 3rd Mix Ver.KOREA2.

However, there should be a panel with various connectors on the back side of the main cabinet. It is down toward the bottom on the left hand side (as you are facing the machine from the front). On this panel are standard RCA connectors for Audio In and Audio Out.

There is also a connector for RGB Out for an external monitor (it looks like a VGA port, but it is *not* a VGA signal...it's an RGB signal just like the monitor in the cabinet uses).

One other connector there is a Link port. As far as I know, this was used for the rather obscure 2nd Mix to IIDX Substream linkup where DDRers apparently danced to music being played by IIDXers. I've only read about this but never actually seen it...or even a picture of it! In fact, in my cabinet, tracing the wires for the Link port revealed that it was not connected to anything inside the machine. (For reference, my machine started as a 5th Mix.)

I do not know if the connectors on that panel differ with the various models of machines. I am simply reporting what I have experience with.

(just notices this post) actually, he said not without hacking the game, so, infact, he did say what you said for an answer.

ermm... I know this is probably a stupid question, but is there a CONFIRMED 9th mix happening for DDR? I still haven't been able to find solid info that tells me so.

If so, is there a link where I can gauk at the screenshots and features O_O?
