The reason a lot of girls don't play at the arcade is because they don't like dirty, horny guys staring at their boobs as they are playing. Not to mention all of the creepiods who hit on you the whole time you're there in the arcade.

How is that different from every other aspect of life? You walk into a grocery store... get hit on... go to the gym, on the treadmill, guys stare at your boobs... go drive someplace, guys wave and what not, that's just a part of life. In many instances, girls relish this sort of attention, so that can't be it.

There's a much deeper reason to why females don't play DDR competitively (stereotypically), and I have a feeling that it probably has something to do with ego. Females typically don't have as much testosterone, which has been linked with feelings that cause ego. Because we don't have as much ego, we don't get as competitve when it comes to things we deem as 'unimportant.' Because games are not important to most females, they don't care if someone beats them, and therefore will not play for significant amounts of time in order to get better. Of course, there are the females that go against the grain.

In these instances, if you're a girl and are competitive at DDR, you probably are aggressive and have somewhat of a large ego. Not that this is a bad thing, but I do believe that these characteristics are inherent to a "good" female DDR player just like they are to a good guy player.

So, in essence, it's just linked to girls not finding DDR or video games as something that is important enough in their lives to boost their ego or persue competitively. Makes sense to me.

Well, possibly.

I personally am VERY competitve in just about everything I do. Yes, I am agressive, although I don't think I have a big ego...but I'm sure I have some form of an ego...but either way. On to the story:

I know of girls in particular that I was speaking of previously. They go to tournaments, they're really good, ect. But they never want to go to the arcade unless one of the guys go with us because they don't like the attention that they get so often.

Ok, now back to me. So, I am rather blessed if you will, in the chest department. I play a lot of video games and I like comics and anime, ect. So needless to say I get a lot of attention from guys. Well, its ok for a bit, I enjoy it some. But you have to understand, when you get hit on over and over and over again and all you want to do is just go to the arcade and have some fun, you start not wanting to go anymore because of all the guys there. I mean, I have a boyfriend, so its not like I WANT to get hit on by anyone and he lives far away from me so I usually don't have him with me when I go to the arcade. I dont think you understand, maybe things are different where you live, but out here I have to deal with like 40 something year old men walking by the machine, then stopping to watch me for like five minutes. It's gets really old, really fast. Not to mention, there are a lot of really foul smelling people at my arcade...

Maybe the ego thing has something to do with it for some girls, but from experience of being a girl, let me tell you that just as many of us, or more, just don't like having guys oggle our bouncing boobies while we play.

I personally think there aren't more girls because, lets face it, most girls don't want to ruin their makeup. And to do DDR properly involves lots of perspiration. BTW, girls don't sweat, they 'perspire'. (g) Cindy

I do hope that was sarcasm. If not, I took that very offensively.

No, no, no! I must have said that wrong. I didn't mean DDR girl enthusiasts. I'm talking about the girls who come to the arcade with their boyfriends to boost the egos of the males, and wouldn't try it themselves 'cause it might cause their mascara to run. The 'Trophy' girlfriend who is there to look good and not challenge them. (sorry, I'm starting to sound a little militant)(g)

Just thought I'd mention this...
My girlfriend has big problems with paranoia (not the song, you addict) and what people will think of her, that sort of thing. She said recently something about how much I appear to enjoy DDR and how I let my feelings guide me through most everything in life. This (possibly among other things) has inspired her to take it up. It hasn't actually happened yet, maybe next weekend, but that someone with her *ahem* social ailments would even consider DDR is pretty stinkin' cool.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that in. Whatever.

Instead of locking all of these, why not sticky it..... the topic aparently is brought up again every time it goes onto the next page, out of view from everyone.

Thing is, by my experience, most gamer girls aren't the type to spend hours on their makeup and hair and all that other girly junk. Also by my experience, the girls that actually play decently play a lot more than just DDR. I consider myself to be rather tomboyish and ya know, if a guy doesn't like the fact that I'm not completely girly then they can take it elsewhere.

I've played DDR for well over a year and in that time I've had some odd experiences. I'm with my friend Clover in the fact that it does get old when guys stare and gawk while us girls play.

One little note: girls don't sweat the same way that guys do. When you guys have sweat pouring down your face, most likely we'll have a little in our armpit and that's about it.

Most girls don't play because they have no intelligence in the gaming department. At least nearly all the DDR players have a passion or somewhat for gaming.

Buying a pad, the game, the console if they have it. Will they go through all the trouble just to play a game? Probably not, especially if they have no interest in video games. Most of them really don't.

Please, for crying out loud...this is probably the most posted topic on DDRFreak aside from 9th Mix rumors/questions/complaints/etc.

I'm a girl and I've a passion for video gaming but I'm not sure that a lack of intelligence in the gaming department is the reason why most girls don't play ddr. Most girls aren't all that interested in games at all or associate it with something only teenage boys do. I used to be really embarrassed about being into games because I was made fun of by guys for being into it E2.gif all though if more girls could play I probably wouldn't bet the as much satisfaction as I do when I play. I probably wouldn't get all the ahhs and wows as much since they wouldn't exspect me to suck right off the bat E1.gif I don't think the fact that guys stare (well most go beyond staring if that 's even possible) really helps all that much either

I am a female DDR player and not many girls play at the arcade. The arcade i go to its just me and my friend.I just find it so intresting that a guy is blown away by the fact that a girl can play on heavy and freestyle.Speaking as a female that has always liked playing video games of all sorts, I think girls dont play ddr because of their lack of intrest in video games all together.
