From what i understand @ ddrfreak.com's rules and regulations, we can not post downloadable mp3's of the music found any DDR game or any other genre for that matter. I'm a Dj and was wondering if mixed music is allowed. I personally mixed a whole CD filled with DDR songs that invoke smooth transitions and a playlist that would make any fan of DDRsmile and dance their buttocks off to the beatz. I would like to share it with all of you folks but I don't wanna violate any laws, so can someone let me know what the truth about this is. _________________

If it's copywrited, it's nono.
If it's a remix, it's ok. =/ _________________

Basics, your response is very vague-=[...can you please elaborate what you mean because all the ddr songs are copyright protected and if i change (mix/transition) it, then it's not? I PM'd a moderator and I'm waiting for a response. Hope it comes soon-=]

I hope that you are allowed to post your mixes because I usually enjoy remixes of good DDR songs. _________________

If I recall the rules correctly, you need to get proper approbation from the copyright holders of the songs you mixed. In that case, it is Konami. I assume that if you got the music files through file-sharing, or other "piracy-like" means, you may not have got their approbation on it.
Therefore, I think they won't allow it on the forums... It sucks, but that's the law, I guess... _________________

As already mentioned, remixed songs require the permission of the original owner. For example, the Grey Album is Jay Z + The Beatles. It was shut down because he didn't receive permission.
If you got permission, chances are we would have as well and so posting DDR songs wouldn't be an issue. However, chances are you haven't. Therefore, it is not ok for you to post remixed songs.
However, if you are the SOLE creator of a song, then it's fine to post because you're the one that holds the copyright and so you can give permission.
PM me with any other questions. _________________

I'm unlocking this because Spike brings up some interesting points.
Remixed songs do not necessarily require the permission of the original owner. Fair Use laws do state that a derivative work (such as a remake, parody, etc) may not be subject to copyright laws.
From the EFF, here's the general things that must be considered under a Fair Use case:
# the purpose and character of the use,
# the nature of the copyrighted work,
# the amount and substantiality of the portion used, and
# the effect of the use on the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
The Grey Album was shut down by EMI records who own the master of the "White Album," but it's unlikely any charges will be filed because of the amount of legal hurdles they would have to go through.
Remixes are an interesting case of Fair Use that covers lots of murky legal ground that's not well defined. However, as long as it's not for profit, I don't see any reason to not allow it. That's just my personal opinion, though. |

Why don't you just fire and e-mail off to Konami asking for permission? Then be sure to post the email (if they give you permission) along with the DL links. |
