Cutriss has written a new article about how to download songpacks for Ultramix over a dialup connection. If you don't have a high-speed connection, but would like to get new songs, this FAQ is for you. _________________

I just thought I'd chime in and put in my two cents. Although this article is extremely well written, and I am glad it has worked for at least two individuals, the procedure described is not a good way to connect your X-Box through dialup. Letting windows manage your DHCP is a bad idea and does not work 90% of the time. I myself had a heck of a time trying this method previously. You are better off using a router to manage your DHCP connections than to trust windows with it. And before I'm discredited, I am a computer science major also studying to be a network engineer, and one of the first things I've learned is not to let windows manage DHCP in a peer-to-peer environment. If you're interested in my solution, by all means give me a buzz, and I'll be more than happy to share, because I know that since I mentioned router, several eyebrows raised _________________

Well, I just now saw this post, but I'll be happy to respond to it.
I agree - Windows network service generally suck. However, having a hardware router requires money, and this solution is good for anyone that doesn't have said hardware. Besides...do you know how easy it is to find a dial-up-based router? Can't buy 'em in stores anymore...
Plus, it would take *monumentally* more documentation to explain to someone how to set up routing on a dialup connection where the host receiving the upstream connection wasn't also the server on the network.
This is the simplest explanation, and it works. It sounds to me more like you have an axe to grind against Microsoft than you're interested in helping people get through this without difficulty. _________________

First off, I don't have an "axe to grind" against microsoft - on the contrary - I feel we should accept and welcome the microsoft monopoly with open arms (Death To Linux!) :-)
Second, Setting up a Linksys Cable/DSL router to work with dial-up couldn't be easier! (Didn't even know that dial-up routers existed) Just tell the router to obtain an IP address automatically! Plus, if broadband service will eventually be in your area, you'd already have the equipment to share your connection when it becomes avaliable (as in my case.) Just wanted to share an alternative way to set up your X-Box to connect over dial-up, with no discredit to the author. _________________
