Here is what MrX8503 PM'd me about the Infinity mod. I didn't see any reason why it couldn't just go into the thread, but here is some of it...
MrX8503 wrote: | Anywho, if you read our site at our homepage u will know more about the chip.
IN short the matrix infinity is compatiable with ALL ps2 versions, has auto boot without even selecting a boot mode, and has cd upgradeable firmware. It costs just as much as the DMS3 and does even more than the DMS3. Since it is a new chip, we will further investigate its abilities, but if it does what the Matrix team says it will do like i said previously, it has the potential to make the DMS3 obsolete. |
Since cmcm is -still- working on my DMS3 (yeah, I think it's been over a year now), I don't think I'll be checking this one out personally, but I need to check which mod a friend got when he recently swapped out a used PS2 for a pre-mod. If I find out anything, I'll let you all know. _________________

Mr. X:
I'm curious.
Is it possible to load older console emulation programs onto the PS2 Hard Drive, and then insert a CD-R/DVD+/-R with ROMs, and be able to load them?
What is the overall extent of the DMS3's abilities to use the Hard Drive? _________________

Ok this question has been answered INDIRECTLY many times and I can't seem to get a 100% straight answer no matter how many pages I read. I want to buy either magic 3.1 or the dms3 modchip. Will either/both of these play ALL ddr (ps2) imports, such as ddr pc ddr ex ddr max, max 2? And if they both do, why should I get dms3 instead? I will be playing a lot of back up's and probably a ton of imports. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Also, is there anyone in New York that knows a place around the 5 boroughs (probably china town) that sells these chips or installs them? Id rather get it done ASAP than wait for a shipment to arrive. |

Both of the modchips will play all PS2 imports, but neither (atleast currently) will play all PS1 imports because of the antimod codes. Magic 3.1 never will be able to but the DMS3 is upgradeable and may one day support the older DDRs. The DMS3 also has a ton of other feature, being upgradeable, being able to play DivX movies, being able to load emulator roms to the Hard Drive and to be able to play them, and many other features. I highly recommend the DMS3, if for no reason than the fact that its upgradeable. _________________

pardon me if this was discussed already...
A friend of mine has a ps2 with a messiah chip soldered. When your turning it on , you cant press reset or else the system goes screwy (according to him) you have to turn it on, and hold the power switch till the blue LED for the power indicator flashes? then just let it sit and it will load.
That was probally butchered by me, but more or less, he said your not supposed to open the disk drive, put game in, press reset. You need to wait for it to boot up (at the browser menu)
Is the messiah the only one that does this?
Do chips like the magic 50k or DSM3 boot games this way also? (ive narrowed it down to either the 50k or dsm) _________________

A Messiah 1? I never had any problems with my Messiah like that, in fact I had to press reset most of the time when inserting media. _________________

Check the dms3 website ( www.dms3.com ) they have links to both the SNES and Genesis emulators that have HDD support. _________________

argh, im so confused as to what mod chip to get.
IMO
flip top:
Pros:
I can install it myself
Inexpensive
Plays backups, imports and originals
Cons:
Swapping, is it a pain in the ass?
Does the fliptop lessen the life of the PS2?
magic 50k
Pros:
Direct boot of games
dont have to worry about swapping disks
plays backups, imports and originals
Cons:
With the chip, installation and shipping, it will cost around 100 dollars.
Thats what I think of the two setups. For anyone who has one, but maybe wishes you would have modded it a different way, let me know! I dont want to make the wrong decision _________________

To me, the fliptop swapping is not much of a hassle, but that is probably because at the most, I do it once or twice a day, and the only games I play on it, are DDR.
I guess it just depends on how often you are going to play imports.
And a fliptop if used correctly will not harm your PS2 in anyway. A slide card on the other hand... |

OK, I got my PS2 fliptop and DDREX. The fliptop is on, but at one point in the installation, I screwed up something and the disc tray is now crooked. I got it back on, but it only comes out halfway and then gets stuck. I took it out entirely and now my PS2 works fine, except for the fact that there is a big ugly hole in the front. Can somebody tell me how to get the disc tray back on?
Oh, and in response to -joe-:
Swapping is not a pain unless you are incredibly lazy. And I mean, LAZY. _________________

ok... so one last question...
To be sure... i think i know the anwswer anyway...
So... i get the DMS3 (v9) install it, and i can play all my imports. Im planning on getting the HDD + FFXI... i know that the DMS3 is HDD compadiable... so that would mean that i could play FFXI. Would i have to use sleep mode to play all online games, or only some, namly socom II and FFXI.
oh and while im at it...
To install updates to the DMS3, you burn it to a CDR. However, when i try, my PS2 doesent read my CDR's that i make. Are there different types of CDRs that the ps2 cant read or somthing, or do you think its my burning program?
aaand...
I heard the new update makes it so you dont have to hold a button to enter the mode in the beginning, it autodetects. Is this true? _________________

I would imagine you do have to run all online games in sleep mode.
What kind of data are you burning to the CD-R? An unmodded PS2 should be able to read audio CD-Rs, but I wouldn't expect it to do much with any other type. As far as I know, no one has ever had a problem with using CD-R media in a PS2, unless the laser assembly was screwed up. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
As for the other DMS3 questions, try checking their website. I'm sure they have a full list of all software and hardware revisions there. _________________

not on subject but you should REALLY get ffxi for your pc......you will find that ffxi for ps2 does not have half the graphics and is much more costly. I play ffxi for pc and have it for ps2......i hate the ps2 version its a waste of time and money..same exact game but you have to buy
PS2
FFXI + HDD = $99
Keyboard good one= $20+
Online Adapter= $30
Very inconvenient and the graphics arent as good
PC
FFXI = $50
Much easier to use and much better graphics |
