Once, I thought up of an idea like this. Give each song "Another" steps, like in BM IIDX. These steps can be insane, and their difficulty will be hidden.
I think of Challenge steps as a decently harder or somewhat easier set of steps to a song, but not necessarily insane ones. _________________

I think the Challenge steps should be renamed to Tech level or something, since they're really not much of a "challenge," but they get technical with the patterns and/or rhythms. Challenge should be a disgusting sort of step for every song, but more like mostly 9s and say, 30-something tens?
But yeah, Doubles IS relearning DDR. Although reading the rhythms and general crossover technique stays, it really is a whole different ballgame. I could constantly AA just about every single song other than the 10s in Singles when I took up Doubles, and I was back to just scraping by on Remember You on Light . Yeah, it's that's bad. _________________

Challange mode would work if the steps were actually HARDER than the heavy version (which isn't often the case). But I thinks an "Extreme" difficulty or something would be good... even if only on a few songs. Each one could be 9 or 10 feet. Take Spin the Disk for instance... it's only an 8 footer and it's really really easy to SDG it, but it's a fun song. It would be great if they had say, a 10 foot version of it (without me having to make an edit, cause I suck wih eidts) because I think it would make the song a lot more fun.
And yes, doubles is da b i t c h... still working on passing most of the 9s. |

Ways to make DDR harder!
1. Wait for Konami to make Oni mode an "official" difficulty.
2. Play Doubles
3. Make insane edits for doubles
4. Make insane edits for doubles and put them all in one big freaking 20 stage Oni Course
5. Have Yasu make insane edits for doubles and put them all in one big freaking 20 stage Oni Course _________________

Im almost as good at doubles as i am at singles, i think we should have an "official" harder difficulty, all the mods but stealth are simple. Iv'e also played the keyboard version alot, and i can do psm oni on quick. (will video) so im in the next mix, if it exists, we need a new level. _________________

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned In The Groove yet, or maybe I missed something.
ITG has new songs and new, very technical step patterns. It also differentiates two new difficulties, hard and expert.
You may want to hold out for that one. _________________

If you want to be challenged and show off, yes.
If you want to just have fun, no. _________________

if they have a beginner mode with all 1's or so then they should have a mode where all songs are either 10 or 11 with oni steps
imagine...blondie girl, baby baby gimmie your love as a 10
lom, psmo, ...as an 11 (not that it already is ) or even a 12 _________________

Quote: | Arch0wl has suggested that Konami use Challenge mode as a way to give every song 10, 11, or 12 foot steps (yes, he things 11 and 12 sohlud be real difficulties). |
I conquer
Psm oni is basically an 11 foot song, there is a very clear difficulty difference between the challenge and heavy steps.
And doing the edit data to make songs harder just doesn't feel the same. _________________

Yeah, I think we do need a new difficulty. For Example, it's a big stretch to have Sakura and PSMO in the same foot rating; if Konami made other songs like that we'd have both BBGYL and Witch Doctor as 7-footers. _________________

Then once Yasu AAA's the damn thing, they'd go "LOLOLOLZ ITS EZ OMG WE WANT 20-FOOTAR SONG OMFG BURP!!!111"...
Okay, I exagerate on the whole thing, but you see where this is going. It would come to a vicious circle of making it it always harder. The result being: newcomers will be discouraged because the threshold to be considered as good will be "OMFG-SUPAR-HEAVY-MANIACZ", which is halfway through the 125 levels of difficulty that DDR2050 would have. (And don't think it couldn't be called this way... remember, marketing people are always 5 years behind slang-wise... )
Albeit the exageration, you see what I mean... |
lol, that was hilarious!
but some of us really need the extra difficulty... plus it would bring longevity to the product. There would be extra songs to conquer, and tougher songs at that. |

So you want a new challenge? A few ideas....
1: AA everything on heavy doubles.
2: A every song on Pump on crazy
3: A every song on Pump on nightmare
I'd list more... but that should be enough to keep you busy for the next few years, thanks mostly to PSMO doubles and Get the Party Started crazy/nightmare on Pump It Up. No kidding. |
