Ems Usb2 Problem

I've had my ems usb2 psx to usb adapter for quite a while now and have this problem. The thing will just stop working after a couple of songs although the power light is still on and my pad gets power. I constantly have to unplug it and plug it back in. IT'S SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its probably windows fault, so you mite want to find some tech boards and ask about how you could keep windows from forgettting you devises, or mabey you need to re-instal the drivers.

Ive had a similar problem using a USB/PC control box with a redoctane metal mat. I use SM and try to play songs, it just totally forgets about dance mode and goes back to analog mode within a 30 second - 5 minute intrival. Its totally annoying if im about to pass a new song and I lose because my controller switches modes, thus voiding all control settings I had set up. Great.....

At least it works for you period. I bought one a while ago while they were still making crappy ones and it won't even handle one dance pad. I use it for my emulators all the time because I was too lazy to return it.

Actually, I baught a smart joy usb/ps2 adapter first, then it didnt work, thats when I got the USB/PC control box instead of the adapter. Now my pad just wont stay in dance mode. Its downright stupid even attempting to pass songs, when you have to engage dance mode every 30 seconds..

What version of Windows are you using?

Are your USB ports USB2?

What kind of dance pads are you using?

What other USB devices are you using?

Lets try to get to the bottom of this problem!

-windows xp (not sure what version)
-step mania alpha 15
-redoctane metal dance mat
-usb/pc control box from redoctanes site
-wireless network card and mouse in other usb slots
-usb 2.0 in the front of my comp, normal USB in the back

It doesnt work right with either usb type. The only problem I have is that the pad will not stay in dance mode... Any help would be spectacularly awesome...

What makes sense to ME is that Dance mode would be inactivated if the adapter lost power/didn't get enough power to stay 'on'. Thus when it came back 'on' it would be in its' original state.

Thus, finding away to provide more juice to it might solve the issue.

Do you have access to a powered USB hub that might be able to give the adapter a bit more 'oomph'? The Dance pads draw a lot of current, or at least I had understand that they did.

Anyone else have these issues who will post their configuration? Or can they confirm that the pads draw a lot of power?

(Has RedOctane support been able to help you at all?)

Maybe if your house is like mine and all the devices are plugged into infinetly chained together surge protectors, you can give it its very own power socket. This may let it have some more juice if its not competing with eight other pieces of equipment on the strip.

How exactly would I hotwire a metal mat so that it had a USB cord, and a power cable. Theres nothing but the USB control box that I have with it...It varies in how it turns on and off, so it must be either a voltage problem, or a power problem.

joeshmo39 just doesn't know what he's talking about. It plugs into USB, not an outlet.

Oh, and when people say voltage, they probably mean how much power something is drawing (voltage * current) because voltage is the same for any PS controller device. If it draws too much power the adapter will not be able to work.

Note that Redoctane only guarantees that it will work with official 1st party controllers, not dance pads.

Hooded_Paladin you are correct about voltage (I had a student teacher during the electricity chapter of physics and therefore didn't learn anything).

I have ordered an EMS2 USB & 2 Wiresless RF converts that I am going to try to use with my Cobalt flux pads.

If I can get it to work consistently with low latency I think it'll be fantastic.

If we can get to the bottom of these issues however, everyone will be better off.

I must have been wrong in buying a control box for a metal mat...that was made by a company that only makes mats...Its made for the metal pad that I baught, but it wont work. It doesnt convert anything, its just a straight control box made by redoctane, for their redoctane metal mat. This is why I dont see it not working....Maybe its just SM and the fact that its not made for it yet, or something....Has anyone used a redoctane metal mat with the USB control box (not adapter) and had it work in SM?

Hmm....It does sorta work, until it loses its signal though, It very well may still be the pad, or the control box....

I have taken the USB devices completely out of my computer, and have found that the pad now works for a song or so, and quits. It was most definately a power problem...because it works a little better now. Does anyone know of any ways to "boost" usb slots...Its just not getting enough juice from my computer to be able to run itself..That much I know. Its good to know that everything is working right though, its just my stupid USB plugs that dont give enough power to my pad...
