Having Trouble getting converter to work

Alright, first off, its the Red Octane one. I get it to work, play a good 30 songs then head off for a break. When I come back (I had exited out of stepmania) I load it up and none of the steps register. So I go to see if the input has changed, and it hasn't, but just incase I figure I'll change them again. Doesn't work, says stepmania has had an error and gives me the error report.

So, I restart. First I check to see if the computer is seeing the pad, which it is. I restart stepmania, same thing is happening.

I have stepmania 3.0. I have 3.9 Alpha on my comp, but since that doesn't have an Axes button, I cant use that.
