Hey everyone . Now I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I went thru this thread for a few pages and found nothing. So here we go:
When I play Stepmania it feels like the game sometimes (especially when there's more arrows on screen) skips, or has short slow down. Like it keeps the beat fine, but the arrows just stop for like 1/8 of a second.
I went to Stepmania.com and they had ways to fix this. They told me to update to the latest version (so I did) and tweak the data/options in the stepmania.ini file. I did this all and it actually works WORSE than my Stepmania ver. 3.0 final works. Does this make any sense? And how can I fix either one?
I'm running a laptop w/ WinXP, 256RAM, 64MB graphics card, and a 1.8 Athlon (I believe?) processor. Bought about 1 year ago.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you! |

Most laptops have problems with Stepmania...usually due to crappy integrated video (yes, its 64MB, but that means absolutely nothing), or the slow HD. Best thing to do is clean up the OS a bit (make sure nothing is running in the background), defrag, update your video drivers, and turn down the resolution. |

Sound card too...
If you're using cheap onboard motherboard sound, you might run into problems, many of them are similar to the problems that happen when you use AWE chipset soundblasters. Look into getting a SB512, SBLive, Audigy, etc. if that's the case. |

It also helps to have fewer things running in the background when you play. Sometimes I'll play Stepmania while I'm hooked up to the internet, and Stepmania always minimizes itself when someone sends me a new IM (via AIM) >_<
Lost a few good scores from that _________________
