|
|
When I say "defines" I mean the song that is most representative of the "spirit of the game." I'm guessing there will probably be some different answers but a few core ones.
I'm thinking the song that really defined the series was "Hot Limit" on 5th Mix, followed by D2R and Dance Dance Revolution. |

Tough really. It could be one of the Brilliant 2U versions, one of the early Paranoia versions, or one of the Maxes (not Maximum Overdrive).
Some candidates: for PA purposes, it'd be Max300 or Dance Dance Revolution. For freestyle, it'd be Strictly Business, My Fire or Let's Get Down.
But, it might be Dynamite Rave. Rarely are there few songs people want to PA and/or "freestyle" to. Dynamite Rave is one of them.

Although it may be a little too obvious, the song Dance Dance Revolution. It honestly captured the feel that DDR gives off. _________________

I like me some D2R and maybe MAX 300? D2R definitely exemplifies DDR because it's fun, relatively challenging for most, and is a good song. MAX 300 is challenging for most, is a good song, but is not fun for most, I must say.
Dance Dance Revolution's pretty good, too. _________________

I think it would have to be B4U, because when I'm playing it I'm thinking "This is what DDR is all about right here" _________________

B4U because it actually says DDR in the song. ._. Several times.

One that comes to my mind which no one has mentioned is Superstar. I don't know why, but it does say DDR bass in it... |

I wish I could pick one... but here's a few... several are repeats
Dance Dance Revolution (really, it's a well-done song)
Dynamite Rave
Paranoia KCET Clean (or Dirty... one of those two Paranoias)
Max300 (the original 10 footer... what needs to be said?)
Sweet Sweet <3 Magic (possible the most diverse J-Pop steps in DDR)
Exotic Ethnic (*the* turning cata... so easy to look good while doing)
Kind Lady (It's on just about every mix for a reason)
Burning Heat (despite being a very unique song in the DDR world, I think this one really does embody a lot of the game)
I considered some songs from other areas of the game... possibly LttS:TC, Sakura, Trip Machine, Drop Out, Afronova, or maybe some of the hip hop, (most of which I only know through Ultramix since there are really no cata hip hop tracks and I don't tend to play anything < 8 at the arcade). However, I think in terms of the way the steps work and the general mood of the songs... the ones above are pretty comprehensive. Paranoia might be a bit redundant step-wise next to Max300, however, Paronia is an institution of DDR, much more so than the Trip Machines, so that's why I added it. |

DYNAMITE RAVE.
where are people getting max300 from? keep in mind we're talking about DDR, not ddrfreak, where the average person sees sakura and thinks "too easy". i bet less than 1% of everyone who has played ddr has even tried max300. |

Well, I remember the 1st mix machine in Matsumoto, and quickly learned that 2 songs in particular really defined the game, which is something because the thing only had, like, 10 songs
Butterfly: Damn, this one song drew more people to the arcade than anything, and *man*, did it get overplayed. Fortunately, you could only pick it once per game in those days. People were playing DDR for the sole purpose of hearing "Butterfly" yet again...
Paranoia 180: It was a kind of "status symbol" to be able to pass the song in those days. Yeah, lame by today's standards, isn't it? ... If only we could have envisioned Max 300 back then...
Over the various mixes, other songs stood out (funny, but when 3rd mix was around while I was in Nagano, Dynamite Rave was rarely picked; it was Afronova that was), but overall, those 2 songs from 1st mix really helped propelled DDR in those days, at least from my humble perspective. |

B4U
Dynamite Rave
Dance Dance Revolution
I actually really liked the song they used in the DDR cameo on South Park, because it really sounded like a lot of the older DDR songs (songs more in the vain of B4U and Dynamite Rave). _________________
