Heres an idea for the market place. What if you guys made a new forum inside the market place that can be essentially, a user feedback forum. (and it can replace the "RIP OFF ALERT!!!" thread)
Details...
When a deal goes through, each person makes a thread in the feedback forum (with the persons username as the subject, and in the body, a sentence or two about the transaction) either commenting on the user and the deal, or explaining why it went bad.
This feature is on another forum that I am a member of, it works GREAT because when i need to buy or sell something, i search through the feedback forum to check out what other people had to say about the person. Its a great way to finish off a deal, or to bag it before you get ripped.
With the values of ebay at mind, members probally would only make deals with people with positive feedback in the feedback forum!
Well, thats my idea _________________

One tiny problem -
phpBB doesn't support nested forums. _________________

We're not Ebay. The Marketplace forum is supposed to be there as an assist for our users, but it's not meant to take the place of a genuine auction site by any means. When you get into things such as heavy feedback information like that, it means serious moderation on our part and I don't think we ever meant for the Marketplace to get that serious. _________________

There's plenty of moderators as it is, as well as regular users that are able to keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. _________________

Alright, first off sub-forums are gay.
Second, if you're buying high price items from someone you don't really know, you're an idiot. _________________

I buy and sell stuff all the time on the internet (high priced items included). Do I personally know these people? No, not in the slightest bit. Under your definitions, you can just call me Joe the Idiot!
Cutriss, Perhaps you guys can come clean and create a new sticky for this main purpose, instead of making a new forum.
Pros:
It would be much easier to operate and moderate
It would save space
Cons:
Once the page starts to develop into the 100 reply area, finding users may become a hassle to search for
It wouldnt be nearly as organized as a forum in itself
The idea of the rip off thread as a sticky is good, however it is not working to its full potential for the reasons of the cons listed above, and the posts are in an unorganized fashion of the negative feedback members. Having a forum/thread that will show the users the good sides and positive transactions will be just as helpful, if not MORE helpful than the negitive transaction thread. _________________

Yeah, I agree having a subforum would be good. Since phpbb doesn't allow subforums, adding another forum would be the next option, but I don't like that option because there are too many forums as it is. It's possible to "hack" a subforum in... we can add that in our list of things to do.. _________________

I would say let's put this on the table for phpBB2.2 migration. Since we'll have to re-overhaul the boards anyways, and phpBB2.2 WILL have sub-forum ability, as well as many more awesomely awesome features .
More details for any curious minds are available at Area51 @ phpBB. _________________

One idea that I haven't tested is:
- create a forum "hidden" from the top-level list of forums
- make an announcement with a link to that forum
would that work? _________________

Where would the forum be then exactly? Aren't all forums that are part of the board literaly attached to the index. I mean, sure if you can make it so that it's not shown on the index but still linkable publicly, I say give it a shot.
Otherwise, maybe we should finally succumb to VxJasonxV's saleman pitches. =D _________________

With the standard feature set, I don't think it would be possible. The only way for the forum not to appear is the remove reading permission for bottom-rung users. It would involve a bit of hackwork. |
