Here's my question:
Is it possible to change the color of the title on the song wheel? I see that some of them are red automatically...I was wondering if it was possible to make them show up yellow like when you unlock a song on DDRMAX?
Thanks |

Ive been making alot of sim files lately, but one of the files I made in particular I'm very happy with, as are the few or so friends that have played it. I did what everyone was surely thinking about doing but noone has yet to do; I made The TMNT theme song a sim file (complete w/ bkrnd movie, and 2 photoshoped images for bg and selection pic.)
Anyway I need to find a good site to upload it to, any suggestions? _________________

Sounds cool. You could wait for bemanistyle to come back, although I have no idea how long that will be. You could also get in touch with bemanisims.com, although in general the stepfile producers they have there all have more than one file. If neither of those work out, there is a "get your simfiles here" thread under the same section that may give you some more ideas. |

Well, there's a right way and a quick way to do this.
The quick way is to simply open up a mix in windows of your songs, duplicate one of the songs in that mix (copy and paste). Then change the mix's name, to "Yeah" or whatever.
Then open that folder, remove the .mp3, and put in yours.
Delete any .DWI files. Then, open notepad (Start Button -> Run... -> Notepad) drag the .SM file into notepad. Change the title of the song to your song, if it has a specific filename for the mp3, remove it. then save.
Open up StepMania, and you should see your song in there. The BPM and Gap are going to be waaaaay off, but you can use SM to help get it better. |

|
|
--FYI-- I have posted this in another forum.
Hello, I was annoyed a while ago with a lot of MP3s that ppl were making custom stepcharts of, where the mp3 was of the whole song and the steps only went part of the way through. That and I noticed with a few MP3s Double-Encoding, where they edited an MP3 and re-encoded it, so it sounded horrible.
I decided to write a program that could retain the MP3 data verbatium, and allow you to crop from the beginning or end.
Like if you aren't going to use the last 2 minuts of a song, why bother sending it, and making it appear as a Long version?
I am intending this for SIM editors who are dealing with making steps to files that are already MP3 and don't want to have to decode, cut and then re-encode dealing with the quality loss.
If you want, give it a spin. Please report any problems back to this thread. If you receive an error, please get the Error number and description.

Thanx |

I tried to find a way for a n00b like myself to learn how to make my own DWI files here in the DDR Freak Forums. I was successful, but I didn't find everything I needed all in one place. I had to scrape things from all over and put them together like a puzzle. I wrote this tutorial to aid others out there that don't yet know how to create their own DWI Simulation files but would like to learn. The concept and theory is really very easy. The hard part is listening to a song and figuring out where you would like each arrow to go.
Before you begin you will need:
Dance With Intensity ~ Look in the FAQ thread
An MP3 of the song you want, you must own your own music collection
An idea of how you would like to arrange your steps to the music!
Okay, hit this link and you'll be making your first DWI file within a few minutes!! Have fun and enjoy.

Just make sure the name before the extension precisely matches the name of your MP3 file before the .mp3 extension.
My Song.mp3
My Song.dwi
My Song.png
My Song-bg.png
the png files are optional and thus are not required to play your step file. _________________

I am trying to create a 256 x 80 banner for a song I am creating a step file to in DWI. Whenever DWI displays the banner (which is saved in PNG format) it is displayed skewed at a 45 degree angle and looks like shiznit.
I tried combinations of all the following:
Interlaced and Non-interlaced
8 bit color in RGB mode and Indexed color mode
With and Without transparency
No mater which combination of the above settings I use it always fails to draw properly.
Anyone with experience creating these banners know what I could be doing wrong? _________________

Put it in quotes...For example...
"My song.dwi"
...and it will be saved in .DWI format.

Try the functions in Xstep (search around on the net). They have a BPM finder and a Gap finder, as well as a sync check. If you want to be more professional about the gap, get a music editor and find out the gap from there. |

In regards to 1000 (topic got locked)
-The notes are completely in sync; they're just damned hard to read/hit.
-You will only see a 32nd notes at the tail end of challenge mode mixed in with freeze steps and 24ths.
-the song is passable, Ive gotten a D on it twice. The trick is to skip doing the jumps and slamming the keyboard as hard as you can when that end run surfaces.
- Ill throw the dl link up again for the kids that asked for it...

Yea.I tried xstep but it needs a really old version of Winamp..Like 2.x would work. If anyone has a link please post
Also if anyone has any other good programs for making DWI's..PLease post them too _________________

Try Winamp 5. Works also.
You can always use StepMania. |

I know it might sound like a pain in the arse, but here's the method I used to succesfully create stepfiles of any difficulty to any song.
1) Find the BPM of the song, I use AutoBPM, it works great!
2) Open your Wav or Mp3 in a program that allows you to select any portion of the wave that you want and play it back over and over as many times as you want to. I select 1 measure of the song at time and play it back repeatedly until I decide exectly where to place the steps in that sing measure before I move to the next.
How to create a step file
Update to this: Some songs require you to use triplets in order to achieve the results you want such as I had to do with Everybody Wants to Rule the World. Triplets are pretty easy to understand in a DWI file.
Code: |
[606060 404040 604060 406040]
[802080 208020 802080 208080]
A!A0 [0A00B!B0] 00 0B
40 80 20 60
[004080 200060 400020 800020]
[406000] 40 [406000 008020]
[008000 802080 004000 406040]
[004080] 20 [408020 608020]
|
This is an excerpt from that stepfile. Each number inside the square braces represents a 1/32nd note triplet, there are a total of 24 of these in a 4/4 measure. Of course you shouldn't cram them all together without giving a break or you'll have the most impossible step file imaginable unless you're running at 20 BPM (Even then it would be tough)
I havn't tried Xstep yet, so I am not sure how well it does or does not work, but if you use note pad and a wave player it will give you the highest and most flawless step placement. If you missed your step by 1/24th of a beat while tapping them in listening to a song you would soon find absolute chaos unless the utility allows you to snap to a timed grid of quarter / 8th / 16th / 8th Triplets / 16th Triplets / 32nd Triplets and you could tell it which you want it to snap to.
[x00000 00x000 0000x0 000000] = Quarter Note Triplet (3 per measure)
[x00]0 [00x]0 0[0x0] 00 = Same Quarter Note Triplet (3 per measure)
[x000x0 00x000 x000x0 00x000] = Eighth Note Triplet (6 per measure)
[x000x0 00x]0 [x000x0 00x]0 = Same Eighth Note Triplet (6 per measure)
[x0x0x0 x0x0x0 x0x0x0 x0x0x0] = 16th Note Triplet (12 per measure)
[xxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxxx] = 32nd Note Triplet (24 per measure) _________________

Usually this is an IO error caused by an attempt to write to a file after it has been closed. When uploading this may be caused by a quota of disk space being exceeded. When a program causes this type of error locally (on your computer) it should be noted and reported to the creator of the program so that they can attempt to resolve the coding error that caused it. Most Run Time errors are caused by an internal failure of the software you are running due to a coding error which violates logic, memory, or disk usage and the only way to get them repaired is typically for the creator of the application to revise their source code. _________________
