Feet/leg pains while playing DDR

When I first started playing DDR, I had the same problems as you. Just don't push it too much. Play for an hour or so, and then stop. Every time you play, the pain will be less if you take care of your feet. I used to get tired after doing something like "Remember You" on Light Mode when I first started playing. Now I can do that song without even THINKING of tiring.

Thanks everyone for the help biggrin.gif

I took the advice and got a hand-held massager, to use for my shins (And it works pretty nicely).


But a new problem came up... While watching TV in my recliner, I had the WORST charlie horse I've ever had in my entire life *The pain was worst then falling into a pile of hot coals *Which I've had the joy of doing**... What is this caused by? Lack of... protein? Any suggestings to make sure I never EVER experience pain like that, EVER again. (I've had charlie horses before, but my GOD... I screamed for 30 seconds and couldn't move for a few minutes afterwards, it was so bad)

Sounds like a muscle spasm. To lessen the occurences, stretch before AND after, and drink plenty of fluids.

I actually strech before and after, already... And I drink a LOT more than whats recommended.

I don't get feet pains, but I do get leg pains if I play excessively for too long.

ever heard of the term "no pain, no gain"

that's your answer.

Eat alot of pasta. It gives you lots of energy. Also don't just sit down after DDR. I usually walk around the mall if my legs start crampin up.

Also before every song, I stretch my calf muscles on the pad. I grab on to the bar and step on the edge of my pad with my toes. I then push down to where my heel is touching the gound. It stretches out them calfs nicely.

*begs to differ bout the pasta thing*
carbs make you bloated and don't really help with cramps. i would reccomend eating lots of protein and potassium rich foods like bananas. or potassium supplements. and yeah, it's good to kind of ease out of it. don't play your very last song of the day as PSMO and then go back to being sedentary, try to at least gradually stop moving.

Uhh... I was suprised that nobody asked what level you did them on. There's a big difference between R&P light and heavy, if you know what I mean. What I mean by this is that, if you're on light or standard, push yourself to the next level and do slower songs. Just my advice. I mean, in 2 months, i've heard of people doing Max 300 at that point, and I know a guy who was still on beginner after 3 months (ugh.. beginner ruins it for new noobs).

Got Milk? E19.gif milk makes you grow big and strong E1.gif ...though don't know if it would help, my mums a nurse and plus I drink alot and don't get any problems.

Its sort of a fallacy that milk is flat out good for you. It has SOME good properties i.e. protein, but think about it: we are the only sepcies that drinks a different animals milk. It's unnatural, and the human body isn't designed to process it, it merely adapts.

it's as natural as drinking human milk, just from a different source. we're not the ONLY animal, most animal babies will try to nurse from other sources when separated for their mother
and milk products are one of the only places that a lot of people regularly get calcium from these days.

and just because it's 'unnatural' doesn't make it unhealthy. wearing glasses is pretty healthy if you want to see, but no other animals do it, do they?

I agree to oolong, milk isnt a neccesity but that doesnt mean that it isnt healthy for you, the protein in it helps make your bones strong & you grow taller faster! E1.gif

Your leg pains seem to be just more muscle aches which come from frequent muscle use. Most people new to DDR will experience alot of muscle pain in their legs due to muscle tissue breaking down and rebuilding. It's the same way you lift weights in the gym. I used to do alot of leg workouts for basketball to increase my vertical leap, so I can play for about 2 hours before I get sore, but when I get sore it feels like I just got done doing 6 sets of squats. Just keep playing and drink plenty of fluids while playing to reduce cramping. Also, NO PASTA! Pasta and other complex carbs leave you feeling bloated. Eat alot of proteins like meat or milk, and alot of potassium like bananas. Proteins will aid you in muscle growth, which is what you will be doing during long DDR sessions.
This is all natural its the way the body works. You said you never want to feel that charlie horse again, well you need to go back to sitting around if you can't take a little pain now and then. I play basketball, football, and used to play soccer. I've broken a wrist, 2 fingers, ankle; pulled many muscles; chipped 2 teeth, 1 that I had to get a root canal on. After all that I still go and play basketball everyday knowing something may happen. Suck it up.

I don't usually have pains from the result of performing physical activity, but other things. For instance, I once was playing Can't Stop Falling In Love on my Konamix and I accidentally stepped on the plastic part above the up arrow on the pad where the wire comes out and plugs into the machine. I dislocated three toes. ADVICE: Don't do that. make sure you don't wildly step around on a home pad, especially if it's mounted.

Sorry, but there's nothing "natural" about those kinds of muscle spasms. Debilitating pain isn't a normal byproduct of physical activity. After all, this thread didn't generate dozens of messages from people saying, "Oh yeah, I get those pains all the time too."

Your resume of injuries suggests that you take pride in the abuse you're perpetrating on your body. You might feel otherwise in 25 or 30 years, but hey, whatever works for you is great; just don't insist that other people do likewise, and shelve the condescending tone (eg "suck it up")

I remember having those sorts of pains, if felt like my shin was gonna split in half. What I did was just changed my routine, did a few warm up songs, then got into the heavy stuff, then eased myself back down, and of course, I started playing more in my toes, I think playing flat footed is what killed my shin, because it would send the shock right up my leg from my heel. And of course, plenty of fluids, and bananas for those cramps, potassium helps alot with them and try to stretch a bit before using that massager, just to sort of warm up your leg a bit, it never hurts, heh.
