The DDR Extreme II "fiasco"

Ok, a lot of you were quick to assume things. 90% of you realized the whole thing was a hoax really quick. Some of you were in the same boat as our staff and believed it was real.

We were going to wait a few more days to post everything because Reo and I weren't completely sure it was true. It sounded nice, awesome looking songlist including stuff that both him and I wanted to see. A lot of stuff that had appeared within the sims community several times, and our "contact" took advantage of that.

Some people want to know who this contact is. But what a lot of people don't realize is that some of our information comes from random japanese people who e-mail us stuff. This happened to be one of those cases. This person is one of those people that Reo and I used to come across on 2ch alot. They post fake songlists and throw everyone for a loop just for the sake of "having a good time".

Well, they got us. They got us good. As stated earlier though, we wanted to wait until at least saturday to post. To confirm what most of you guys questioned. The lack of location test, the lack of the logo, and some of the more fishy songs in the initial songlist we were sent. Unfortunately the images we were sent (which were only those 2 in actuality) got out due to the excitement from some of our staff and friends, and that forced us to post early. Mostly to save face I guess.

To those of you who took it hard enough to say we lost credibilty. Grow up, we all fell for the joke. Our bad, generally we try to check everything to make sure it's legit, this time we just didn't get a chance to. To everyone else who got thier hopes up, we're sorry we were the ones who leaked this only to have it be all a hoax. To everyone else who thought it was funny, well that's cool. Either way, we'll have to double think everything we post from now on just to make sure the previous events don't occur anymore.

As for the headline dissapearing. I had asked Celcius to remove a similar topic on another section of the forum and he deleted the wrong one. This made a lot of you think that we set it up, but those of you who have been with us for the 2 years we've been open, know we don't do the april fools thing. We never have. For the most part, our staff is just too busy for it, and on top of that we just don't go for it. Whatever. Everyone has thier own takes on the situation, and this is my official statement. Read into it how you will, but we feel just as upset as most of you do.

Hmm...lots of coincedences, or one big set-up

This is what happens when something everyone has been waiting for turns out badly. (A la Janet Jackson's boob)

After it happens you never really know whether it was intentional, accidental, etc.

I, for one, don't really say I lost credibility with you guys, maybe a little bit, for I think all the conversations that went on on DDRFREAK and BEMANISTYLE should've gone on between the staffs before posting pics. But I can see everyone was probably very excited. And I'm still kinda skeptical of the thread just being deleted out of the blue...

And it is close enough to April Fool's for me to be pissed off from something like this. I'm extremely tired of EXTREME myself, which many of my friends started on, while I started on USA Mix and 3rd, and I'd really like to see one more DDR before I "retire".

Well anyway, I still have faith and respect in bemanistyle.com and DDRFREAK. I really don't care what anyone posts about rumors, sayings, heard it through the grapevine, etc. As long as it's not bull about a new arcade/home mix, espicially from mods/admins.

Oh well lesson learned, unless it's got proof, or Konami's wording, do not believe anything about any new mixes.

haha no hard feelings, i missed the entire things, i was hanging out with friends most of the day, when i come home everythign about the Extreme II already vanished, and all i was left with was some aftershocks. I didnt even get to see the pictures. But anyways, who cares, its a video game anyway. If they come out with a new one great. If not, there is always IIDX.

I think no more lower of Bemanistyle than I did before this hoax. You're a source for news, that's for sure, and even news sites get things wrong once in awhile.

It did appear to be a hoax after I looked at it carefully, In some pictures the marquee had a 2 but in others it was a 3. I thought I needed a stronger glasses prescription. Darn those Japanese people and their sneaky ways...but we love them and their DDR and earthquake-proof buildings!

actually, I don't really care all that much. What's done is done. Somehow I was kinda hoping that this was a big April Fool's joke among boards, and that maybe phrek's ban was tied to it somehow....

heh. if u watch the credits for ddrextreme, its pretty sad.

it's like the life of ddr from beginning to end. also, i found a page that i think is how they found out about it being fake.
