Okay, I understand that DDR is a very LARGE community and all, but having over 100 pages in one topic is crazy! It takes me like 5 minutes to load each page because you guys have so many things! Could you get rid of the older ones because I'm afraid of using search! I can't imagine the wait! |

If a topic is taking 5+ minutes to load, that isn't DDRFreak's problem - that's your Internet connection. I'm on dialup, and even during peak hours, it usually doesn't take me more than 30 seconds to load a complete page. If the site's getting hit hard, then the server will just plain deny the connection.
The admins do prune old topics every so often. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything on the board more than six months old, and the current "uptime" (using the term judiciously) is at sixteen months.
Why exactly are you afraid of using the search? BTW - If your search is too broad, it'll just timeout after 30 seconds. Generally, though, you shouldn't need to do a search. The most common topics have stickied posts in each forum so that you can easily get the info you need. The best rule of thumb is that if you don't see what you need, go back at least two pages in the forum.
The chances are that if you don't see it there, you've either missed it in a stickied topic, or it's safe to ask. Odds are though, that not only will you find a topic discussing it, but you'll also see one or two locked threads of people trying to discuss the same topic without looking up the old one. _________________

Whatever you do, don't gravedig and reply to a thread months old and add nothing to the discussion if you find something in the old threads you find interesting.. Chances are that a more interesting or recent discussion is going on that's similar anyway.
Search is pretty good to use. And if you are on dialup, you can always turn off the graphics and the pages will load a lot faster.
Threads just naturally die over time due to lack of interest in the topic. With new topics always popping up, there really isn't too much need to backtrack unless you are looking for something very specific anyway. |
