It's fun to play because it is a healthy hobby. It keeps people away from other bad habits and onto the machine. I like to play because it's also a very social interactive kind of game. Meet new people, do new things. Competition is healthy as well.. and you have alot of fun. _________________

I play DDR because it's fun to me... I love hearing the cheers and jeers of the Announcer and the audience (moreso cheers than the jeers! ), the dancing characters in the bg (since I have Konamix ), and of course, DDR wouldn't be DDR without the flashing arrows! Pure bliss in every game!
So, in short, I play because it's fun! _________________

When I'm at home, I play because I enjoy the music, and it's the only rhythm-based game I have besides FreQuency and Amplitude. The fact that USMAX2 has cute background dancer girls doesn't hurt, either.
I live in a very redneck-ish part of Mississippi, so arcade DDR is still a very new and unique thing to many around here. I play DDR in the arcades to gain the praise of these people, because I get nothing but flack when I'm at home, and the audience's applause is a nice pick-me-up from this. Without it, I imagine I'd become a clock tower sniper within the week. _________________

Why do you play a game that forces you to get physical. Why do you play a game that has such uselessness? Is it because its just a videogame? That couldnt be, after all, you get the same feeling when using the controller.
No one truly beleives DDR can do anything for them in America... it doesnt teach you to really dance... it doesnt help you loose weight. You think it does but its mere childs play. And you all know that this foolish "revolution" is soon going to die off... after all its just a fad.
And with this fad dying off, all your devotion and "skills" will be deemed completely useless.
So with all this facing you as you try to become a "god" in this pathetic videogame... I ask you...
Why do you play Dance Dance Revolution?
[IGNORE MY SIG! THATS MY REASON! WHATS YOURS?!] |
You are all most likely new to DDR you probably joined 5th mix or above. And you are all going to get tired of DDR just like the rest of us have. nemmo probably started playing DDR way back when it started when lines were more then 2 people long and when DDR was popular. These days DDR is a dying fad. Useless...Yes yes it is but guess wat so is almost every other fun thing in life. Sports is that gonna get you anywhere in life, no (unless your really unbeleivably good) Is playing video games gonna get you anywhere in life,no. Is DDR gonna get you anywhere in life probably not.hell is sex gonna get you anywhere in life probably not. there all useless. But if we never did anything that was useless once in a while what would be the point of getting out of bed.If we couldnt play DDR or have sex or play sports or anything fun would we really want to even live. You think that DDR is useless and we all are wasting our time on a dying fad and I guess we are but what dam bussiness is it yours to tell us what we can and cant play anyway? |

dabomb, honestly ddr isnt exactly a dying fad, fads come an go in less than a year and fade into the background for a good 10 years. ddr was never really that popular when comparing it to other things such as sports, home video games[ie. n64, ps2, xbox, you know], or any other popular recreational activity. ddr has been around for over 5 or 6 years and it was most popular in CA. however. ive never been to california before and it might have died down over there but i doubt it. its just some have gotten bored of ddr and the old players leave. but for all the old players leaving there are 2 coming in, whether you like it or not. here in NJ i have seen 6 new ddr machines/upgrades within the past 6 months, ive been to them all. here everywhere i go that i have played ddr at, i have seen countless people playing on the machine. at hockey rinks, at malls, and especially at my local arcade, even at bowling alleys and restauraunts. the masses of people playing is unbelievable. i have been playing since last summer and have seen at least 10 regulars (regulars as in people who go there at least 5 times a week) as well as countless other less frequent visitors. DDR is blooming, at least in my area, for one reason. the introduction of ddr max, max 2, and ultramix(and eventually extreme). when you walk into any video-game store it wont take you long to find the ddr pads. every one ive been to has them. these are attention grabbing items that attract people into buying the pad and the game, creating new members of the ddr community. this number of people is going to continue to grow should konami continue its production of ps2 and xbox ddr games.
The only reason ddr seems to be dying is because Extreme is getting old. Konami has abandoned arcade mixes because of lack of popularity in Japan and something has to be done about it. Should ddr die pump it up or in the groove or something WILL take its place. Should just 1 last arcade mix be release DDR would gain even more popularity in the US, should konami be forced into making this last mix and after seeing the results they would almost certainly keep releasing more new mixes. extreme was released way before max, and max 2 ever came out for ps2. should it have been released after these came out then it would be hugely popular. _________________

Since DDR has never been as popular in the U.S then japan.Konami sees little reason to release another DDr here. In the U.K however there sure to get at least one more dancing stage because its more popular there then it is here the fact is it IS dying if you think its popular now you should have seen it 4 or 5 years ago.there was litterally 20 people lines konami was releasing games for the U.S back then. But now they think that DDR isnt popular enough to make another model and that arcades wont buy there machines(which they will) Konami is now relying only on the home market which is currently selling pretty well.

So far as I'm hearing, DDR in the arcades in Japan aren't OVER, they are merely on hiatus, meaning they will pick up the series again. Extreme was meant to be the start of something new, if they are doing something totally different, I'm sure it will be worth the time they are taking. _________________

Regenesis wrote: | Yeah, really, DDR is so pointless. All you do is step on some arrows for a few minutes and you don't even get anything for it. Come to think of it, you don't really gain anything from playing any video games, so you might as well not play anything. In fact, never do anything unless it has an immediate, tangible benefit to you. But really, no matter what you do to improve yourself, you're still going to die, so you might as well just go kill yourself now and get it over with. |
I'd have to agree with this answer. |

Um, personally i play ddr because its fun and yes, i do lose weight because of it. but if u want to take the "not getting anything out of DDR" attitude, why did u register for the ddr forums? why do you go online, what benefit do u get from the net? why do you play any video games? why do you watch tv? what do u get outta that?
thx. _________________
