Is there some sort of program/mod out there so that I could, let's say, play a friend across the country online?

Obviously it'd be weird because both people would need the same songs, steps, etc.

Multiplayer battles will soon be integrated into Stepmania when its coded in, however, please dont bug the SM crew about it. DWI doesnt seem to be having any plans to release multiplayer.

That will be so awesome to play people at SM online. But you know, now there's a problem with lag for people with 56K, and possible connection failures and stuff...

No.

Why is everyone so obsessed with online gaming? It's not all that good (as CS and Gunbound have taught me).

yea, a connection failure in the middle of a song would really suck... or lag... ew.

why would Gunbound make you not enjoy online gaming? It's so... awesome...

Why would u want to play ddr online against anyone other than your friends anyway? Would the possibility of getting a higher score be enough to put up with getting ur buttocks schoold by some uber player or put up with disconnects and people using a crappy connection? In my opinion, no.

And you would consider the opportunity to play someone half way across the world in DDR a bad thing?

I would love to see it happen, but two people playing at the same time would require near 0 lag, which is not always promised over DSL/Cable and near impossible over dialup. What is possible is something like a ghosting system, where the game records your run and you can send it to your friend in zimbabwe who can then play against your ghost and try to beat your score...but I don't see much of an improvement in that over callin' up and sayin "hey I just AA'd XX song."

Hello, I am now part of the SM devteam. Josh and I have added primitive online support to StepMania, and will be adding more.

http://cnlohr.net/doublesm/

Click Old Site for some files pretaining to Alpha 10

Alpha 15 should contain the code for syncing.

This system is designed for LAN but does work on the internet. There will be a more incorporated system shortly.

Currently, there is no battle support. It is doubtful there ever will be.

Post back and I'll be checking this thread and the one at DDRManiax

Thanks.

Unfortunately DDR Ultramix was designed with the idea of Online play from the ground up. It is unlikely that SM or any other Simulator will have 100% integerated online play, ever. But we're doing as much as we can.
