Out of all of the DDR OSTs I own, I have never once paid attention to the production/background music tracks. Not even for 3rd Mix or Solo.
And never have I completely disregarded the pre-requisite "nonstop megamix" for the production/background music tracks. Usually, I give at least one listen to the entire megamix.
That is, until this OST. This megamix is the worst one since 4th Mix. They didn't even bother to really "mix" the songs together. They just took 30-second to 50-second snippets of the game version of each song, and applied a simple cross-fade effect at the beginning and end of each track. I could have made this megamix on Windows 95 with the standard sound recorder program included in Win95.
Having A Stupid Barber, Endless Jam, and the unplugged version of Remember You on this OST, on the other hand, is pretty frickin' cool.
Feel free to comment. _________________

Aw man, not another lame Nonstop Megamix. The first DDR OST I ever bought was DDRMAX, and that one has a phenomenal nontop megamix (MM). Excellent mixing between tracks, transitions match well, all around good. I particularly love the end, starting Follow Me, then going Exotic Ethnic=>HVAM=>Candy* (or Candy KOG G3 Mix as I like to call it).
Then I bought the DDRMAX 2 OST, and I was appalled. There was very little, if any mixing in the MM, only simple crossfades. Granted, the DDRMAX MM had only 37 tracks, whereas the MAX 2 MM disc had over 50 songs on it, almost filling up 74 minutes, but it just felt like they didn't even try. DDREX's MM was a bit better... there were some actual transitions like Sync into Frozen Ray, I believe, that was good.
Now it's back to no mixing again for Party Collection, and it looks like this one could very well be worse than MAX 2, just looking at the track listing. While it does have almost 80 minutes of music on it, the songs in the MM, like you said, are smashed to hell, looks like the average track length is 20-30 seconds. WTF? There are some songs over the 1 minute mark, but most of them are songs like Dynamite Rave Down Bird Sota Mix, production music and other songs that were on US mixes already. |

Wow that sound's like it sucks.
My review of all the megamixes
2nd Mix- Alright for the very first megamix, nice that there are long versions and KO remixes in it.
3rd Mix- Also not bad, nice transitions, although the KOs didn't have very very original remixes, there weren't many KOs in the first place.
4th Mix- The beginning of this megamix is very boring. But the short, but cool, remixes of most of the KO's are very nice (Remember You, Don't Stop, Higher, Trip Machine Climax, Hypnotic Crisis)
5th Mix- Haven't heard this one in awhile. Can't really comment on it.
6th Mix- The best megamix IMO. Not just because the music, but the creativity, the transitions, and the remixes. Very awesome OST.
7th Mix- THE WORST OST IMO. Most people say they hated 4th Mix the most, which I did too, until, I went back and listened to both 4th Mix and MAX2 back to back. 4th Mix at least has a few license long versions and remixes of KOs, MAX2 has almost nothing on it at all significant, all it is is the simplest transitions on earth.
8th Mix- Somewhat better. What made this mix was the license remixes and extensions. The KO remixes were ALMOST ALL just shortly extended versions of the original DDR version, such as the last verse repeated (1998, Hyper Eurobeat, Dance Dance Revolution, Crash!, Colors, A, V, sync, stoic) but some were actually pretty nice. The Paranoia Survivor to Paranoia Survivor MAX and the remix of Love Shine.
Still have yet to hear this Party Mix...hmm, although sounds like I might not want too. Although a remix/extension of A Stupid Barber sounds awesome!! _________________

Solo 2000 has the single best megamix followed by 3rd mix. i have not been impressed with any others. though, i am disgusted with MAX2's megamix. _________________

Oh yeah, I forgot all about Solo, and Disney also.
Well Solo is nice it has a lot of cool remixes and stuff and it sounds like a CD I would actually listen to. I pity anyone who bought the MAX2 OST.
Disney, I don't really remember since I only heard it once and that was on DDRFREAK radio. Mickey Mouse March (Eurobeat EXTENDED Version) YYYEEEAAAHHHH!!! _________________
