The other day, I got Xbox live, and I figured I'd try out DDR Ultramix. After playing for about three hours (bored, waiting for party), I'd started to notice something. For some reason, it seemed that almost everyone who was playing on the actual pad was really rude and mean to all the controller players- asking them to just leave and stuff. (And I'm not talking about "Hey, would you please leave?" it was more like "Get the f**k up and GO!")

Really, I'm just wondering what the big problem is.

Now naturally, I understand that some people may only want to play other pad players. Other players may simply think that controller players just suck (think the whole bar raping issue all over again). I just think that some people need to get over themselves, and realize that even though it's one of the best games out there, it's just that- a game. There's no reason to essentially discriminate against other players just for their choice of how to play.

And keep in mind that not everyone can afford a DDR Pad.

I just think that some people need to stop worrying about their damn rankings, and just have some fun- that way, everyone wins.

I totally disagree with you. Hell, I"d get mad too if I was using a pad and I had to go against someone with a controller. It just wouldn't be fair. But I don't think I'd be super rude about it. That sort of thing should be kept sperate. Where controller people can go against each other and pad people can go against each other. Sounds better if you ask.

aslo, when a mod sees this thread it will be either locked or moved to the home console forums. Just thought I let you know.

I'll beat you with a controller, then if you think that's too unfair I'll beat you with a mat. Not that much of a difference really.

I was thinking about that too- I'll alter the title, mostly cuase it's not really about Ultramix, more about the people on it. As far as controllers vs. pads, I only think they should be separate if you're seriously trying to challenge someone. If you're playing on pad, and they play on controller, be happy simply knowing that you're probably better than them, and move on. Don't get all stressed.

I don't know how it works, but if they go down in ranking becaue you beat them with a controller, it's not fair.

I mean, I've AAAed PSMO on controller (as well as a lot of other stuff). Does that mean if I played with controller, and rose to be that 'best player' on the rankings, that I was really better than people who would beat me if I were on feet?

The game is for people who like ranking and those who don't. They won't (can't) mess up your enjoyment with controllers, you shouldn't mess their enjoyment of ranking just because you don't want to do it.

If it's just someone you just randomly meet and play, I see no problem- just move on. REALLY good players should be able to beat anyone no matter what they lose. (Not really, but if they're supposedly so superior...) My problem comes from people being RUDE about it- telling people to "Get the frick on" and such. Remember, you're not being forced to play against any certain people, and if you want to play against only a certain type of player, then it's up to YOU to do the extra effort and seek out people who play the same way. Don't get mad at normal players simply because they play a different way than you, don't have a nerdy obsession with rank, and only care about having fun. If DDR was strictly about rank and competition, they'd have P Vs. P attacks like in Bust a Groove.

(P.S.- The "you" I refer to in this post is not YOU per se, just a general noun. Just thought I'd clear that up.)

and here's what sucks

when i first had the game i bought it seperate with the Naki brand pad for the xbox and online it doesn't show as a pad it shows the controler symbol.

disturb.gif i was tired of people thinking i was using the controler while i was working by buttocks off trying to get the arrows down (i was new at the time) and i'd get a bunch of "YOU SUCK"'s from people...

then i bought the set w/konami pad and now i'm fine

It's such a shame that people go "You Suck!" over what, when you really think about it- is a simple matching game. (Though I do understand that it's a bit more complicated than that.) It sounds like the people you were playing with need to get some lives- not everyone has the time to sit around, wasting mommy and daddy's money all day, while they dance away on a trash bag-turned-dancing stage.

(Sounds like I'm knocking DDR, I know, but I'm not trying to. I just don't like people who think they're all "1337" and sh*t.)

Changing the title doesn't change the topic. If it has to do with playing at home, it belongs in the DDR Console forum.
