It's not just a matter of bandwidth. Most people go to message boards to read and post. It's really retarded when you open a thread for conversation and see:

Over and over in a thread. As a general rule, if your sig takes up more space than your actual posts, then you're being pretentious and taking up far more space than you need to. Even when on broadband I don't care to scroll past a sig I've seen a hundred times just because someone likes FFX so much they wanted to make a collage about it.

If you're standing next to me on the subway wearing a giant fruitbowl hat, and leaves keep brushing against my face or leaking juice onto my newspaper, I don't care how pretty you think you look, I'm telling you to take the damn thing off before I do it for you.
Image sigs are a perfectly fine way to express yourself, but a little banner identifies you just fine.
