It's because I'm an buttocks. Seriously. No hard feelings, though I wouldn't count that as "flaming", more like "exasperation", and I even went through and linked you to all the relavent info.
This thread has been going for over four months and I still remembered that he mentioned the source on the very first post. That's all. |

Make sure you're at a command prompt then try
Code: | cd "C:\Program Files\Dancing Monkeys\bin\win32" |
then
Code: | dancingmonkeys.exe "C:\WhateverYour\DirectoryStructureIs\reallycoolmusic.mp3" 1 5 9 |

prncofdrknes - Hmm, this is kind of weird. I just downloaded the file using Opera (my regular browser) first and it downloaded just fine. I then tried to download it twice using Internet Explorer and it stopped both times 67kb shy of what the total file size should be.
Bah, I'll update later with a link on my own webspace hosting the file but only for a couple days (or until I remember to delete it).
Lukino - go to your Start menu -> Run -> then type in "cmd" without the quotes to access a command prompt. When the prompt pops up type in the stuff I told you earlier. |

ERROR: Subscript indices must either be real positive integers or logicals.
EXITING
If the reson is "Your MP3 Sucks", provide more than that like "Your Music sucks" or "Your MP3 sucks because somehow it got corrupted" _________________

It sounds more like maybe the command line syntax you used wasn't quite right... like maybe it's interpreting something else (ie non-integers) as the step level difficulty parameters. |

Well, it does say that it found 4999 frames out of only 4987; I've never see DM do that; the first number should always be less than or equal to the second number. Maybe that's what it's talking about. No idea how to fix that, though. _________________

No, it's not that. Dancing Monkeys simply isn't that very complicated when it comes to coding up steps. I think all that it does know how to code up is 1/4th and 1/8th notes, jumps, and freezes. I don't think I've ever seen DM produce a file with 1/16th's in it. The program also basically just codes steps that go with the beat; it's not very dynamic for following the music, so you'd never see something like INSERTiON's steps come out of DM.
DM's great for finding the BPM and GAP, though, so do that much and then remake the steps in Notepad. _________________

For anyone who is interested, here is a quick way to remove the time limit restriction of 105 seconds :
Open up dancingmonkeys.exe in a hex editor like UltraEdit32 and change the values at the following offsets:
0003446D: from 40 to C0
0003446E: from 5A to 82
This will increase the limit to 10 minutes, which I suspect should be enough for anyone.
By the way, I think this program is excellent. I was just about to start the exact same project last night when I came across it. Some songs work better than others, obviously, but it's a really nifty little tool. It's not very often that I find an agreeable combination of a song I like and steps that aren't ridiculous and keep to the beat. The steps generated by DM may be somewhat generic, but now when I find a song that I would like to use in Stepmania, I can actually use it without spending hours generating my own steps. While it's true one gets a sense of satisfaction out of making your own steps, the end result is no surprise - you've practically got the entire thing memorized before it's 100% done. It's more fun to play something where you don't know what's coming next. (Most of the time, anyway.) |
