Why do you play DDR?

Why do you play a game that forces you to get physical. Why do you play a game that has such uselessness? Is it because its just a videogame? That couldnt be, after all, you get the same feeling when using the controller.

No one truly beleives DDR can do anything for them in America... it doesnt teach you to really dance... it doesnt help you loose weight. You think it does but its mere childs play. And you all know that this foolish "revolution" is soon going to die off... after all its just a fad.

And with this fad dying off, all your devotion and "skills" will be deemed completely useless.

So with all this facing you as you try to become a "god" in this pathetic videogame... I ask you...

Why do you play Dance Dance Revolution?

[IGNORE MY SIG! THATS MY REASON! WHATS YOURS?!]

You know, I think there was a thread on this like two days ago. I'm gonna hop around here for a bit and see if I can find it.

**edit** Found it. http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=83875

Well, I like the music, the fact that I am losing weight while enjoying myself, making new friends.

That should do it. ::Goes off singing "Dive" at the top of her lungs::

Yeah, really, DDR is so pointless. All you do is step on some arrows for a few minutes and you don't even get anything for it. Come to think of it, you don't really gain anything from playing any video games, so you might as well not play anything. In fact, never do anything unless it has an immediate, tangible benefit to you. But really, no matter what you do to improve yourself, you're still going to die, so you might as well just go kill yourself now and get it over with.

I find it ironic that you think DDR is a waste of time, yet it's not a waste to go to a DDR forum and post about how stupid it is. Chew on that for a while.

You're all forgetting the original reason we were all drawn into this game...

You go to a friend's house, he busts out the pad, you fail miserably, but you keep saying to yourself, "Maybe...maybe one more game won't hurt!"

ok, why do we play any video game, or better yet watch any movie or tv show? For entertainment value! That is what DDR is to me. an entertaining thing to keep me occupied for a couple hours at a time. Plus, its excersize, and u are having fun while doing it.

what is that keeps you hooked to any video game ?... because it offers you enjoyment and a challenge. DDR is no different. I dont play the game because i want to be a "god" at it, i play it because it offers something that others dont.

Why dont i pick up a controller and play it?... because then the majority of the enjoyment goes out the window imo. When it was first released it was a fresh idea and still is to a lot of countries, hence why bemani make a mint from it.

i also agree with the reply that wondered why the hell you would post here it was such a useless video game to you and it wasted your time... one answer = flamewar.

Ummmm...... This thread is useless. It's not getting anybody anywhere. And also, about the money. For the most part you get money from tournaments, but also from doing other things within the community.

Wrong. I've lost 20 pounds from DDR. My friend, Ryan (Rychan) has lost 30. I can run far distances now. I gained stamina.

Why do anything? You're just going to die and rot in the ground anyway.

Alright, I'll elaborate a bit more...

I used to play a lot of video games, a long time ago... I stopped in 1995 when I went to college. When I discovered DDR, it was so much unlike any other game I had played. It was a game of which the music was an integral part, not just some background addition. It allowed you to be physically active instead of just sitting on your butt - and I wasn't particularly physically active at the time. A friend of mine invited me to play a game with him on a MAX2, and I got hooked.
It is a fairly challenging game and it allows you to set higher and higher goals for yourself. Plus, the arcade experience adds an interesting social aspect to the game. DDR is much more fun to watch than the average game, so it is conducive the creation of large crowds of players who watch the game while waiting for their turn, who discuss things, who get to know each other.
And also, DDR is a lot of fun.
Personally, I'm not trying to lose weight, but I do know some people who play partly to lose weight. I personally know someone who lost 60 pounds playing, and someone else who lost over 20 pounds.

Why do I play DDR?

It's entertaining, challenging, and the music isn't bad either. Heck, you can impress a heck of alot of people, even the girls, by playing this game
