The voltage difference isnt that bad, so you don't need a converter if you don't want. Its worth it if you keep your PS2 stationary msot of the time. Youll never have to wrory about games for it not working. I got a modchip simply because I take my PS2 everywhere and its mroe convenient to carry around 1 PS2 that can play everything than 2 that can only plays half the stuff. _________________

i might add that play-asia.com is another good site to add to your list of where to get games...
TW-MVG-AJD will get you 5$ off a order of 40$ or more.
this site will also let you pre order IIDX 7th style. and is where i got 6th style as well as Extreme.
when a new game is comming out this store lowers the price realy cheep then pushes it up after launch. so preordering here is a good thing. _________________

|
|
Quick question: I just installed my fliptop cover (ordered from ps2cover.com). When I open the lid, I actually need to lift the cover up - pushing the "release button" on the cover is not enough. Is this normal?
A couple things I noticed when installing the cover (for anyone considering getting one):
After installing the cover, I tried opening the cd tray but it got stuck coming out - which scared the crap out of me.
I loosened the screws, and that seemed to help, but not completely. So, I took cover off completely, and put it back on. That seemed to work.
Also, the little cable to the power/reset button is a little tricky to fit in the case. Be careful not to pinch it.
Overall, I'm now able to play DDRExtreme (JAP) and DDRMAX (JAP). Sometimes, it takes a couple tries to get it booted, but it works.
Anyways, anyone with a fliptop cover, please let me know about the lid opening up. Thanks...

White piece-magnet
piece which goes into hole of disc-attracted to white piece
they're stuck to each other when closed. Yes, this does defeat the purpose of pressing the eject peice of the lid.Just pull it open.

There's no need to open the cd tray in the first place. If the screws are not tight enough, the ps2 will mess up the disc as it is reading it.
For the cable-the trick is to fold it through the space next to the disc tray right next to the reset and eject buttons, so it won't be in the way of the tray. And also, i can boot both a copy and actual import of paty collection and extreme in one try. _________________

Thanks - that's what I figured. It seems a strange design to have the release button, but anyways.

There is no reason to open it, but the cd tray should still be functional after installing the flip top. I figured it was a bad sign when it got stuck halfway ejecting!

I'll need to double-check the screws then, as I don't want to harm my discs. It seems that it might take a couple of tries getting the cover llned up properly when seating it.

I think I found the trick: you must press down in the center of the disk, and make sure that it clears the lip on the left. A good test is to see if you can spin the disc. After trying this way, I can seem to boot everytime.
Thanks for your help,

Alright, swap disc question. Nobody seemed to know what to do before the thread was locked but ill ask here anyways. My swap discs dont load up. Instead of going to the swap magic screen it takes me to the browser screen (the one that shows your disc and memory card) The disc when highlighted says PS2 disc. I select it, the screen fades away and then fades back to the same screen. PS2 games play, PS1 games play, DVDs play, CDs play. I cleaned the lens with a swab. The discs are the right ones, I have been using them for about 2 months to play IIDX, and then one day a week ago they just stopped working. Ive tried turning the PS2 on and off, iv unhooked everything and then hooked it back up. Still the same problem persist. The discs are nearly perfect. Certainly no blemishes that would cause anything to occur such as the disc not reading. I do not get a disc read error, I am simply not brought to the swap magic screen and instead taken to my PS2 broswer screen over and over. I am using Swap Magic builds 2.0. Any ideas? |

Maybe your laser is dying. What version is your PS2? Is your PS2 in the horizontal or vertical position? _________________

Version escpaes me. Im to lazy to look. But would a laser dying only give me trouble on Swap Discs and nothing else? I have zero problems with anything, except my swap discs. |

Swap Disk arent 100% legit, so they might. If your PS2 is vertical lay it down flat. _________________

I just got my Japanese PS2 today (yippie). Regarding this voltage issue, is there any risk involved by noting getting a step down converter to change the voltage? Are there any precautions I should take if I am not using one? |

okay, because i have a version one ps2 i read that i am unable to install a flip-top mod cover on to play import games. But while i was researching i came across this --
http://www.modchipnow.com/product_info.php/products_id/73
---
so, you don't open your ps2, it's a plug and play, plays all original import games (i'm assuming DDR Extreme jp) and it uses Swap Magic.
I read the first post and i didn't see this mentioned anywhere so i thought i'd ask around before i put in the investment? Does anyone know of the legitimacy or just the overall quality of this mod? |

Slide cards screw up your PS2s motor and gives it a nice slow death. Plus you can make a slide card for free, so its a rip off either way. _________________

well, even if it does kill your ps2 at least you don't have to void warranty when you installed it _________________

Okay, I have a flip top with swap magic 3.0 and since I didn't see any import discussion/modding in the IIDX threads I have to come here. I have been using the swap magic three to boot up IIDX 6th style and when playing it freezes on certain songs (particularyly ballad for you) Does any one have probles with games freezing and a way to prevent it? Thanks |
