I ordered a cobalt flux dance pad a little over a week ago(it should be arriving soon hopefully). So....what i was wondering is if i should do the carpet mod on it right when i get it(my whole house has carpet except the garage and kitchen)? See, it has the warranty on it, and im not sure if i should void it...im pretty sure the carpet mod voids the warranty. The only other option i have is to play it in the garage for the six months and then when thats over carpet mod it then and then i could play it in my room. Any input is appreciated.

Tsuja-sama, i play on carpet on my cf as well. it slid maybe an inch per song before i applied the grip tape. when your cf arrives, so will 4 pieces of grip tape. put them in all 4 corners, and the pad will NOT slide around. even if u get down and push it on the side, it still wont move. dont bother modding in any way. also, if you do have a problem with your pad, it probably wont be the pad itself, but the control box, in which all the wiring is stored, so modding is not a horrible thing to do. i have custom arrow graphics and such on mine anyways..

Ok, so I got my BNS style pads and have sheet metal modded them (although this occured before the mod as well), and they work great, but there's something odd...

I have two pads, and both of the green arrows (X and O buttons) on each pad (4 buttons total) will trigger very rapidly when pressed. There doesn't seem to be any short in the wiring, or between the copper plates/sheet metal. I've noticed this phenomenon both while using it to play Ultramix, and on Stepmania. Is this normal?

I'm thinking that this is a problem with the control box, but I can't be positive. Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone know an online retailer for a 2' x 3' 30 Gauge Galvenized Metal? It the type of sheet metal listed for mod for metal pads. I know that homedepot.com is selling the exact ones, but unfortunately they didn't have that type in the store. If not an online retailer, a major retailer that will most likely carry this type of sheet metal (ie. Walmart or Target).

Does the type of sheet metal really matter for the mod? Are there alternatives? When I went to some hardware places, they had 26 gauge sheet metal but for $20! The one off of homedepot is better for $6. I thought finding this item would be common in most hardware stores...

Hey people, i've read a couple of cases where people thought they were ordering the BNS clones and instead received what looks to be the NEO pad. Any chance you could pass along which seller is doing this? Or.. Is it actually the discount-auction people that are sending them out? Thanks for reading. E19.gif

Here the ebay link of the seller (discount-auction) of the supposely BNS clone from picture

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3083909014&category=21185

The look may resemble that of NEO pad, but the BNS clone I don't think (from what someelse posted) are not acrylic plastic panels. I've looked at past buyers of metal pad from that dealer, and there were several post about the pad looking different than advertised. I guess you can pass on a different look for the pad as long as its features are consistent. I emailed the dealer questioning whether if the panels were poly-carbonate but have yet to receive a reply. I still kinda trust the dealer that he'll deliver a pad with just that once I receive it. Once I do get it, I'll confirm (if I'm able to tell the difference) if advertise product is legit.

As for who's sending them out. It seems factory direct, if thats the right term. I ordered 2 ignition pads form that dealer and even though the title has his name in the from address, the actual address matches that off BuyNShop address. Considering that the container had BNS/DDRNation logos on it. I don't think an individual would actually have his own stockpile of someone e'se product. If anyone who like to elaborate how this seller can sell other companies product for cheaper, pls do. As for me, I don't mind it as long as the product is what it suppose to be for cheaper E13.gif .

YES! When I got my pads, I played on them for about 1 hour total playing time before modding them, and some of the aluminum tape had fallen off and was stuck to the copper grid. I guess that within a week it would've been ghosting/misfiring.

BTW, I still haven't figured out why my corner arrows trigger rapidly, can anyone help?

I know that the mod on the first page is good...I went to Home Depot and looked at the materials...only thing is that I don't have a saw and I don't know what I would be doing anyways...

can anyone help me?? E19.gif

Sheet metal mod (I think only mod for metal pad):

http://www.rufus3.com/ddr/mmb.html

Or did you already have the link... I'm kinda confused with your situation if you found the page for the mod or not. You don't need a saw, just tin snips which are probably not that expensive to buy. If you follow the instructions on that page, you'll be able to do the mod right easily.

When you went to home depot, did they have a 2' x 3' 30 gauge sheet metal? I found the perfect match on home depot online store, but found a zinc version in the store for x5 the cost (@20). Anyone have suggestions where I could find some cheap sheet metal for the mod?

Ok, thanks...I just couldn't find the mod at all...

Would that work for my BNS pad as well?? I know it would work for a MMB pad...but that doens't apply to my pad??

and guys, would ps2freak's mod apply to mine??

I'm heavily confused!! blink.gif

Here's a part of an old post where he modifed the sheet metal mod for his BNS-clone (can be seen on pg 46 of topic i believe):

zero2dash wrote:
BNS metal pad review
(a quickie...)

I got my BNS-clone pad last Thursday which turned out to be a BNS pad, period. (Not a clone.) I sheet metal modded the pad this past weekend, although I did it slightly different than the MyMyBox mod suggests; it calls for the sheet metal to be cut to 10"x10" squares, which I thought made the arrows bulge up too much as well as become harder to register a press...so I cut them to fit the square cutout in the foam, which was approximately 6.5"x6.5". It works awesome now...just as responsive as before, without the worries of the cheap-ee tin foil stuff burning up or whatever.

...
I'm 6'4" 225 lbs. and if I can play 10 footers on my BNS pad without it breaking, then I don't see how polycarb arrows can break. riiight.gif

..

So as you can see, these pads can survive people of his caliber once they are modded.

As for the psfreak mod, I don't think that would apply to you. I think those are for the older metal pads that need better or replacement panels. The panels on a BNS are poly-carbonate, much stronger than the one posted in the psfreak mod. The thing is the copper contacts under the panel breakdown, residue forms, heat is produced thus causing damage. Once you get the sheet metal on top of copper, it won't breakdown the contacts and your pad as fast. So my advice is just do the sheet metal mod and you should be fine.

Hey jamesgriggs, you got EBAY BNS clone metal pad right? or anyone who has modded this pad. I just got mines today and took a look under the panels. There is a square perimeter of foam around the copper contact and two aluminum pieces underneath the panel. When you do the sheet metal mod, do you use the 10" x 10" size piece on mod page? or would a smaller verison be better? I read from previous post, he cut the metal the size of the inner area shaped by the foam. Does anyone have a suggestion of the best sheet metal size for the panel of this pad for best response.

I am wondering, is the build of BNS like that of clone version? or is it more sophisticated or very different?

The metal pad I got off EBAY doesnt look like what was advertised, but like the picture someone else posted with green diagonal arrows and metal washers. The panels are quite pliable, is that how poly-carbonate material suppose to be? Cause I have no clue if an acrylic version would feel. The copper contact is smaller than the mymybox version (may not be as responsive?) Some metal and plastic are scratched or stripped, but looks are just superficial. I guess that what $100 gets you heh. Once I mod the pad, I'll post a my thoughts of it.

well i've gone thru a good part of the beginning, skipped to the last few pages and searched the forum for more info about a metal pad and noise. I didn't find many answers, so if it wasin the section I skipped... Sorry! E13.gif

I'm thinking about buying a CF pad, but i'll be moving into a 2nd floor apartment in the next couple of months. Can anyone with a CF pad tell just how much noise it makes? Anyone living in an apartment that knows how much noise it'll make for the person below? I just got into DDR about a couple of months ago. I'm currently playing on soft pads and I'm getting better at not stomping and jumping around as much, however when my sister decides to visit and play she can get pretty loud and really stomps. I've already talked to the new landlord about it and she said that it should be alright and I'm planning to talk to the tenant below, but I'd just like to know before I shed the $600 for 2 CF pads... there's no point if i can't use them erm.gif

Yeah thats a good pad for the price but if you want a really good pad go for a cf (cobalt flux) everyone i know who has or has had a BNS think they are a good for the price and for the players like the ones in standard and heavy who have a backround and know what to expect. but ive played on them before they are a good pad. just do the sheet metal mod.
