I almost feel like I've reached a plateau in IIDX. I gotta find some way to jump start my hands to the next level of playing, cause I'm not happy with what I can and can't do.

I've got a 7th Style machine 10 minutes from my house and I play there nearly daily. I can beat every song in the game on 7 keys save for Max300 (everything about that one gives me trouble). I can beat everything on another except most of the flashing 7's (Tomorrow Perfume is horrendously easy though, and I have done Take it Easy in the arcade). I can AA everything except mabye half the sixes, and I can AA mabye five or six 7 stars. I can get an A on about half the flashing 7's without difficulty.

I just got done watching a video of RyRy doing Murmur Twins Another and AAA'ing it and it really makes me want to play better. I've been trying to distance my hands from the keys more and it has been helping on my timing, but when I get up to flashing 7's again it just goes to hell cause I gotta keep my hands close for the way I do most of the more complex notes. I use my right thumb quite a bit on those. I've been playing almost all random lately especially on 7's/8's to try and get myself used to quick reactions, sight reading instead of memory, and get my hands able to do just about any note combination thrown at me. I've beaten V random here and there, I can do Stoic random just about every time, did Sync Another random twice, DXY is always fun, and whatever else I'm forgetting.

But you toss any of the "really hard anothers" at me and I fall to pieces. I don't think I'll ever end up beating Linus another. Is there any advice or playing tips someone could toss at me that I could try tomorrow? I'm getting better very very very slowly and I haven't made much progess at all for the amount of time I've put into playing, and I'm going on almost 3 years of playing. There's almost no reason for me to not be able to do DXY Another or Nemesis Another at this point yet I can't do it. I'm thinking my main fault is in my play style but I would need a video to show people for something like that.

So yea. Any advice would kick huge amounts of buttocks.

First off, I like your sig.

Secondly, I hate that damn murmur twins video, don't bring it up SHHHH.

My only real advice I can give is practice. Random does help alot, lets you learn harder patterns, and helps you sight read alot better. I would recommend playing expert courses and improve beating your own records. Expert courses will help because sometimes they may have songs you dont like because you just hate it musically, or you hate the notes; either way it will help you learn all types different patterns and help you improve your timing. If you have lots of trouble with the "harder" anothers like DXY, Holic, Nemesis.. Just wait awhile. Play with random, improve your timing, go back to the harder songs every once in awhile and see how you do. Thats really all the advice I can give.. Practice.

I, too, like your sig. It pretty much made my day/night.

Pretty much everything that ryry has said is true, and also, this is my opinion, listen to the mp3's of songs that give you a hard time. Search for note charts on google and study the parts that give you a hard time. Now, some say looking at the note charts won't really help out that much, but I do this while listen to oh say... DXY! and I match it up with the note charts to it.
