ok I've finally decided that I'm going to go with a hard pad once I save the money. I'm looking to spend about $100. However, I read about all these mods and replacements that need to be done.
Is there anyway around that so I can just bye the pad and enjoy it? _________________

There is a way, I think its called a cobalt flux metal pad. But I heard those things go for $300 So I guess that would be out of your league. There are metal pads that go for $100 and you can enjoy it w/o modding for not a very long time. Seeing that you've passed a few 10 footers, your pace of dancing probably would break down the cheaper metal pads in no time without the modifications. The sheet metal mod cost no more than $10 and 30 minutes of your time (thats unless you have a fear of hand tools and duct tape ).
So you decide.
- Keep saving until you get enuf for a cobalt flux
- Mod an affordable metal pad
- Prepare to have a disfunctional metal pad within the month or two. |

The mod sounds good, can I get a link for that? and how long would it extend the life of the pad? _________________

Sheet metal mod:

If you keep up with maintenance described at that link, a cheaper metal pad should last much longer than it would unmodded. Unmodded pads may break within weeks or months depending on game usage. Pad breakdown is evitable (especially for cheap end models), and cracks or some freak problems may occur. But these problems should be minor ones that are rather simple to fix instead of major ones that may make your metal pad beyond repair. I've seen in previous post in Metal Pad topic that an individual was able to maintain his/her metal pad for almost a year. I'm about to get my own metal pad and see for myself what I learn, but that mod is a god send for us with limited funds.
Tips when looking at metal pads:
- poly-carbonate panels (acrylics sux0rs!)
- metal frame around the pad |
