...and the same thing can be said about SO many other things.
i'm a casual player also but the time i would spend watching TV, sometimes i spend on the computer. Well what better to do then talk about things you enjoy on your spare time?
as for those people who can't live without it, thats them and it's a shame they waste so much of their time instead of balancing it with other important things in life.

I have to agree with you on most of what you said, but I do have a statement.
I've met a lot of acquaintences through DDR as we all have, the the general community that I played in actually got so consumed with the game that it really did become their life. You know how it is when a friend of yours says "Where's Bobby?" and you say "Oh, he's at home watching anime, as usual." Well you could directly relate that to DDR for them. You didn't have to think about where everyone was at, because they were most likely in the same place they were at yesterday...and the day before that. I KNOW we have all come across at least one individual that will be playing DDR in the morning, you could go to work, run a few errands, and come back 5~8 hours later and still see the same person (I've worked in an arcade twice before, so I can vouch for that first hand).
I'm sure we can all agree, there's nothing wrong with enjoying a game, but 'living' it is a different thing. It's easy to see when someone's unbalanced though when you see them rip a game a new one, and then try almost any other game and not fair half as well at it, but what does that have to say about other things in the person's life?
I'm not saying I sit back an analyze people that are around me, but I'm just speaking on things I pick up on from the general community.
Oh, and I too love music, just as pretty much everyone in the world. It's part of what drives most of us subliminally; the rhythm . However, DDR falters in comparison to other musical games like IIDX for me, since you have more control of what the music sounds like, and you even get a more official music video to go with it (eye candy I guess). Despite that, All IIDX did was open me up to my latest new toy, the piano. Such a magnificent instrument, along with the electronic keyboard. _________________

It goes both ways-did you introduce yourselves-or were you just there trying to show how "good" you are-PC isn't the place to try and impress. I am not at all good at this game but PC people have never made me feel uncomfortable when I play. They are a very close group who have been hanging together for several years so don't expect to just go up there and be in with the team-but if you introduce yourself and are friendly-rather than showing up there with an attitude(calling people arcade junkies, starting threads just to b*tch about PC players-thats attitude) you might be surprised at the welcome you get. Several of the really good players there do take their game time seriously-they they are playing for it-they can play as casual or serious as they want-but you obviously take this whole thing way to seriously if you are worried about what other people think about you when you are playing. (And Xiayu-you haven't posted in forever than you practically write a book in here-LOL-you don't even play ddr remember-LOL-relax its just a game-we all know how you go to the gym and have a life and everything but this is ddrfreak-LOL)

I'm NOT trying to show how good I am. I'm trying to have fun, which is rather hard when you hear the guys behind you snicker when you break a 200+ combo.
And no, I'm not going to introduce myself to people like that. >.< And I mostt definately don't have an attitude. It's just the whole way they act like they're SO superior is kind of frustrating. |

Okay, now I have to detest.
NO ONE at Pocket Change in Waldorf that I know would "snicker" when someone breaks a combo, or even fail a set for that matter unless you are doing something stupid. If you think that someone at PC was laughing or snickering at you then try introducing them to ME, and we'll see who's snickering at who, okay?
I know you aren't asking for this, but I'm offering. It's the least I can do since I used to be a regular up there and I know the community well enough to know that people up there don't tease other DDR players. We all suck equally as much and we are ALL aware of it. Granted, wouldn't it seem odd if you saw some beginner (and you KNOW they are a beginner because they just had trouble clearing Cartoon Heroes light) trying to play PSM?! That's something I would probably give a surprised face too, but even still I wouldn't go laughing at anyone.
Oh, and they aren't the President's of DDR, and they don't act like it. No one acts superior to anyone else, unless you call out a challenge, which wouldn't be taken seriously anyway. It's just a game, so pull the stick out of your ass and play. No one's against you...even if you suck at it. _________________

I have never seen PC people act like that-they are amazingly good and that sometimes intimidates people but I have never seen them have a problem with less skilled players. They don't have to act superior for some reason some of the most superior ddr players in the state ARE from PC-thats no act-but they are also really cool people. There are a lot of people who hang out there-not all of them PC crew so I'm not sure who you actually had a problem with. I do remember your friend DJLB having problems with people on these forums before but I'm not sure what that was about or if that had anything to do with it.

Yea dude! I go in there to have fun, and I'm a friendly person, I have something nice to say to everyone. It's just kinda hard when they're behind you acting high and mighty over a game .And no, the PC people aren't necessarily "superior" to me in DDR =P I'm pretty good. |

::sarcasm::
point being it doesnt sound like the pc guys-three have already posted here-are the ones taking this whole thing so seriously.

I'll take your word for it that you are a friendly guy, so then you can offer me your honesty. Don't be shy now. Who exactly do you remember acting 'high and mighty' behind you while you play? All you have to do is give us some names and the problem will be solved. The players at PC are far from keeping people from coming there, and you are always welcome, but we can't inspire you to come back if someone we don't even know is making things uncomfortable for you.
Give us names, please? _________________

Yes, please, give us names....I'd like to know. I don't see anyone being arrogant around there (except one, but he's only arrogant towards a specific group of people who know him personally). You're just confusing us taking something seriously when we play for us being arrogant. I've never heard anyone snicker or laugh when someone breaks a combo...I've laughed at myself before, because I suck, but I've NEVER laughed at anyone else, except when they're being silly and trying to make us laugh. And the same goes for the rest of the PC players. We have enough drama among ourselves, we don't need to bring others into it. _________________

I didn't ask those ppl for their names. I didn't want to talk to them really... They probably weren't regulars anyway. I don't go there that often, so I don't really care that much. I was just tryin to say that some ppl at pocket change (not necessarily regulars!) were being MEANIES. |

Then I have to call foul tip on you by using the ever-so re-occuring response of "If you didn't care, you wouldn't have said anything." line, since you can expect to run into MEANIES at any public place you go to. The world is full of dicks and asses. The best you can do is get to know them so that you can find the best way to remove them. _________________

The "profit" to be had from an MMORPG in no way rivals the real profit to be had from DDR. Point in case: MMORPG's detract from social skills, they give you no excorcise, they sap your energy away (the events make you think you've done more than you have -- read up on it, it makes you think you're tired. true with many games), mmorpg's cost a monthly fee; on the otherhand, DDR has a real community of real people, so you can develop real relationships that usually extend past DDR, dance is an art, dance is also excercise, and if you buy the home version, you pay for about 2 monthos of MMORPG play, and get as much play as you want, forever. The end. _________________

2) The People. I've met a lot of cool people through DDR, several friends and of course everyone on my team. It's definitely been a positive social event, that has allowed me to meet smart, good people who share my interests.
3) The Excersice. I've heard this point mentioned, helps keep me in shape and is good aerobics for Kenjutsu and Pitching.
4) The Fun. DDR is very fun for me, the most satisfying feeling, for me, being when I AAA a song and know I'm done, I've mastered it totally, I never have to play it again. It's fun achieving, it's fun feeling like your getting better and it's fun seeing that AAA.
5) The competition. By this I mean NNR, my friends challenging me, friendly rivalries, etc.
6) The tournaments (other people's). It's fun showing off my skill, meeting good people and working toward a goal. Not to mention traveling to new places.
7) The tournaments (my own). It's really fun running tournaments, seeing people getting better and seeing the community strengthen.
That's probably the rough reasons I play. If I come up with anything more I'll post it. | Nice reasons. I hope you don't mind if I use em'...
1)The Score: I play every weekend to get my PA to it's full potential.
2)The People: I have also met a lot of people who are know my friends through DDR. Spending time with them and acting like total idiots on the weekends are always fun.
3)The Excercise: I play DDR for it. I'm sure as hell i'm not gonna pay a membership for a gym when I can just pay 50 cents and sweat the same amount than what you do at a gym.
4)The Fun: This applies to #2.
5)The Competition: None what so ever. I just play because I like it.
6) The Tournaments: I like tournaments. I go to them whenever possible...
and I don't run my own tournaments... _________________

i dont really care about getting a good score...like im not one of those people who do nothing but try to get AAA's...those people are too serious...
besides...its fun to play max300 and then see all the people's faces |
