Extream, but it might be in Max2 also. It only appears when you play non-stop or Oni lists.

ah, ok. i've never played NS/Oni on Extreme... >o< maybe it's getting a note RIGHT in the center of the perfect window, and it gets you a little bit of extra points or something?

I'll explain. E1.gif

The marvelous step can only be accessed three ways.

1) If the machine is an Extreme (8th Mix)
2) If you're playing a nonstop (any setting)
3) If you're playing an oni course (glitched, non glitched, any setting, any course)

The perfect step is definitely ontime...but the marvelous step is sort of like a glorified perfect, (such as Athena's Psycho Teleport is a glorified Roll (Capcom VS. SNK2) in that correlation / assumption.

(A marvelous step is above perfect it's the highest ranked step you can get. Again only accessed by Oni/Nonstop Modes on Extreme) Adds more points to your score ; thus bringing me here

Extreme Oni Score Card

Marvelous = 3 points
Perfect = 2 points
Great = 1 point
Anything lower = 1 life bar diplinished.

Pretty much means that you have to step a few frames more "On-time" with the arrow pattern that's all. E7.gif You'll find that it's not THAT much harder to get marvelouses than perfects...but a constant flow of marvelouses is near impossible. (Such as AAA'ing a nonstop song with all Marvelouses)

Which is why I believe Konami threw them in...to raise the standard for Oni courses / Nonstop courses.

Short answer: "Perfect" steps are not right on time. They're within 30 ms of right on time. And a Marvelous is within 15 ms.

What I've never understood was:

How does a marvelous affect your letter grade in nonstop? It it worth three points? Does that raise the maximum dance points needed for a AAA, or does the maximum stay the same and getting a marvelous just act as a bonus. Or maybe a marvelous is just worth 2 points in nonstop?

No it doesn't. If you get straight perfects on a course, you still recieve a AAA. Marvelous ranks more affect your score. They give you a little more than a perfect.

Even in regular play on extreme, marvelous steps show up, it just doesn't say MARV! Watch the color of the flash when you hit the arrow. Yellow is perfect, and white is Marvelous, and when you start getting perfects, it means you're falling close to the edge towards a great so you get to play the happy game of trying to figure out if you got a late perfect or an early one.

I'm not sure if that was a joke, or if you're just stupid.

It's true. At least I seem to recall having heard that several times before, but I've never paid attention to it while playing.
