I really don't think that DDR can be "dead" it will just lose some people who probably didn't really like it too much to begin with, I think that true DDR fans like myself will keep the game alive for a LONG time to come. Any true fan would agree that as long as we are here DDR isn't going anywhere and there is nothing anyone can do about that. The true fans were there at the start and the true fans will see it through for as long as it takes to show everyone that we aren't gonna just let our favorite game die like an animal, we will keep the movement going and I will always keep recruiting more players, be they a true fan or not. DDR will always live on in the hearts and minds of those who once cared enough to go out to an arcade and lay down $20+ dollars in an hour to play. I'm not worried about DDR going anywhere anytime soon.

I used to play ddr a ton last year, some of my friends criticized me but i didnt care. Then I started to loose interest. Then I realized that I really hate the music, then I quit, and when I saw other people playing it religiously, I thought it was incredibly nerdy, then I started to agree with my friends who thought it was stupid.

Anything that gets you to play for a year isn't really stupid. DDR has some wonderful facets to it. It's not just a game, which is strange to think about. It's an exercise regimen and an entire culture. Some people are in it, some people aren't. But like any group or culture, it changes. I haven't been playing for very long, but I'm extremely impressed with how mature the DDR community usually is. I've never been on a message board in my life where people actually manage to be as supportive an on-topic as this one. I think it's really great. It's not for everyone, but for now, it's for me. Am I going to play for a very long time? Probably not. My real passion is in producing music. But playing DDR has had a major impact on the way I look at music in general, so no matter where I go in the future, I'll never look back and say, "That's stupid." I'll look back and realize that I learned a lot from it, got pretty badass, and had a lot of fun. Nothing wrong with that.

So as for the original poster of this thread. How about going and talking to those n00bs and give them some pointers. They'll be playing catas before you know it.

I'm very suprised with all of the replies I've read. Hmmmmmm the Long Beach DDR scene has grown up quite a bit....I've seen it evolve into a small community where I play...to a lot of people that frequent the arcade I go to.

The arcade I play at it is a recreational family arcade...and lots of people that come in are usually there to play the redemption games...(Their redemption stock is really awesome) and they see DDR...and they're like "Hey I want to try that" and they try it.....and they catch on really quick...on the fundamentals of the game..and they find it very fun and catchy, (Mainly the girls) and some of them come back to play more...

and more and more...a lot of females play where I play. It can get frustrating watching them play beginner/basic all night..but I was there once so I can't say anything. It's growing here. Very rapidly.

Competition wise...everyone here plays for fun...I love it. The only real competition I've noticed here was when a guy challenged me to a PA battle. I beat him badly and then I never saw him again. That's about it. The best female freestyler IN DDR plays where I play

She's also a great friend.

Yes, I absolutely loathe this game.... that's why I dedicate so much time to helping people with their tournaments or running some of the most well attended tournaments in Southern California.

Yes, I absolutely loathe this game.... that's why I spend my weekends going to Los Angeles, Palmdale, San Diego, and other locations to watch and sometimes participate in torunaments. I hate this game so much that I travelled 6 hours to a tournament in Arizona with the rest of my friends.

Yes, I absolutely loathe this game.... that's why I agreed to be in a G4 channel promo dancing on it with some others and in a documentary that is entering film festivals and showing in (very select) theaters on both the east and west coast. I have also noticed that ddr fans tend to stick up for each other, ddr hasn't just been a fun gaming experience for me, i have made a lot of friends doing so. when i first started playing ddr about 1 1/2 years ago no one else i knew played it, but once a bunch of peeps from my school saw my playing and thought i was really good (could only do R&P on standard at the time so i suppose i was ok...) but after that they all decided to try, after about a month over half my school was playing it. we even had a ddr mini course (if your school doesn't do that and you don't know what a mini course is, it is when you shorten all your other classes during the day adn go to a 2 hour special class that you choose at the end of the day once a week for 4 weeks, or at least that is how long we do them) i have made A LOT of friends from playing ddr and a lot of my school looks up to me now because i was the first to play ddr, yes 9th graders can have other 9th graders as idols

, and after seeing this i find it hard to believe that the fan base is diminishing. when it is so easy to recruit other players (hardcore or casual) i think that there is no way ddr can go "out of style" like a bad pair of shoes.

Here in Anchorage, the DDR scene is partially popular. And as always, some think it's the best ever, some think it's just crap. Some will adapt to it forever, some will move on to something else better. Some get better at it in no time, some take months of playing of trying to be the best.
What goes around, comes around. We learn to adapt to the changes in nature. But I wouldn't be suprised if any of you guys shed in tears once DDR dies, whever the hell that'll be.

Well im not quite sure if my area is losing interest or not. Or maybe there's a new hot location im not sure of. Only reason im so out of it is cuz i havent played for about 3-4 months because of wrestling, and then of my knee injury (in wrestling). Im from the bay area, but i normally go to Malibu rather than pier 39 or Metreon or any other places. Everyone i knew who played ddr alot, i havent seen in the longest time and ive gone to Malibu a few times already. BUt i agree with what has been said earlier, its just a circle of life. Pros get bored, noobs come in, become pros and repeat.

You know, I remember reading stuff about MUDs and the kind of players you can find in those. I believe the concept could somewhat be applied to DDR.

For those too lazy to read the thing, it basically separates players into 4 categories: Acheivers, Explorers, Socializers and Killers. I don't see how socializers and killers could be applied to DDR, but acheivers and explorers can.

Acheivers are those who thrive to be the very best. They play for the sole purpose of getting better and "pwning" others. Learning something new about the game is only valuable to them if it can give them an edge over their rivals.

Explorers are those who have a lot of knowledge (and along with that came skill), and who enjoy passing that knowledge to those who are less experienced than them. They value knowledge and passing knowledge more than being the best. They find this more constructive, thus more fun.

The problem I see here is that there are WAY too many acheivers, and very few explorers. The acheivers believe they did all they could to be at their prime, so they give up.

However, that's just my opinion on the matter...
