I've met quite a bunch of people at first when I would play...but when I worked at the arcade in the mall I became more social and met even more people who play ddr...its gotten so bad that I know people only by their face and not their name...and if I can't remember their name, I gotta make up a nick name for them so that I would remember them. And as for love...I met my boyfriend from the arcade/ddr and we have been together for over a year now and I live with him....we're kinda more into initial d now bit I'm tryin to get back into ddr and even things out. As for my friends that I had b4 I played ddr, they thought it was weird at first but then I had gotten them all into playing it and they've all become great players. So ddr has changed my life in a huge way.

I have met lots of people from playing ddr, a few not so close friends. But ddr is a big part of me and my boyfriend, so I guess you could say that's how we hooked up E13.gif

Well first, DDR helped my patch up a very old friendship I had.

Second I met my boyfriend playing ddr. I play at this place called malibu that has ten dollar tuesday. We both ended up there for the last ten dollar tuesday of the summer. We talked a little and 7 months later, here we are. ^_^.

Here's a copy of my story that I sent to REDOCTANE

My name is Eddie "thewheel" Woolf. I'm a 21 year old DDR'er from Madison, Wisconsin. This is a very personal story for me but I saw your post on DDRFREAK and though I'd share it with you. My story is actually a combination of weight loss/love stories. Let me start at the beginning.

It was New Years 2003 (January 1st 2003). I wasn't really looking to make any New Years Resolutions or anything, but something needed to be done. You see, I had been overweight since I was 12. I had gotten fatter and fatter over time until I topped out at 247 pounds. Things weren't going so good for me. My health was suffering (both physically and mentally) and I needed a change. I was sick of constant weight related depression and trips to the hospital for "panic attacks" (I kept having chest pains). Then I decided to do something about it.

http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v26/thewheel/NewFatEddie.jpg (Me right before New Years)

DDR came into my life in full force. I had made the decision that I wanted to lose weight and get healthy. Since I wasn't going to school at the time or working much I had plenty of time to go play (I knew of DDR because I briefly played it when the local arcade had 3rd Mix). On January 14th 2003 I started going over to the local Cyberstation to play 7th Mix every day. At first I only played a few hours a day but, within a few weeks, I was playing 6-8 hours EVERY DAY!. Since I also had changed how I ate the pounds just started flying off. First from 247 to 220. Then to 200. Then the magical number 196. This is when I met Lauren. Lauren was a local player who only showed up once and a while. But whenever she was there we would ALWAYS play together and became "distant friends". Then the day came. We both happened to show up at the exact same time on the same day to find the 7th mix out of order. DAMN! I asked her if she wanted to go play on the other local machine (a 3rd Mix down at the University's Students Union) and she agreed. When we got there it was ALSO out of order. So we just decided to go hang out. From there, we started hanging out a couple of times a week then, eventually, it became daily. "Distant friendship" quickly became "close friendship" and then "love". We were spending EVERY day together. I also continued to lose weight and get better at DDR. A lot of things happened between then and now, but the biggest night of the year was probably Halloween 2003. Lauren and I went to cosplay DDR (I went as Ryu) at the Cyberstation. This night was important because it was the first time I truly felt good about myself and skinny since I started losing weight.

Since then things have just been getting better. Lauren and I are now engaged, I'm down to 141 pounds (106 POUND WEIGHT LOSS!!!!!!!!), and I'm enrolled as a pre-business student at the University of Wisconsin Madison. I still play DDR quite a bit (not AS much as before). In many ways you could say that DDR was the MOST IMPORTANT thing to ever happen to me.[url]

I just want to say that my experience to the topic is not all good, but the positives in the end totally outweigh the negatives.

Many of you who have seen me in person or have talked to me know I'm not an extrovert. OK, we got that out of the way.

I had a lot of friends, but after we all graduated in 1998, they all left and went their separate ways. Now, most know me as just the "guy that writes for the paper." A few of them remember the days.

Enter DDR: I have met so many people and my social life has totally changed from dull weekends to going out and actually doing something.

- - -

I have played video games competitively since the fall of 2000 through contests and tournaments held by Twin Galaxies. However, many of those tournaments were console tournaments where you had to tape your record attempts and send them in for verification. I never got to see my opponent. I only heard of them, either beating my score or coming close. For me, competing in the Crazy Taxi 2 tournament a couple years ago, I considered it an honor to finish just behind Equipe Metroid: one of the greatest video game teams in South America.

And, so, it was like that. Playing competitively, not getting to know anyone except through e-mails and forums. No live interaction.

Enter DDR: I met friends and had and have fun.

But, I wanted to enter tournaments, and this is what I love about DDR so much: I love traveling to tournaments throughout California. I get to meet new and veteran DDR players, people who share the same passion as I do about competitive gaming and playing DDR.

It's putting a face to a name as well. In 2003, the one sentence I always heard from players was "I've always heard about you, now it's so cool to finally see you in person." That, I thought was cool, and it's still cool to hear that these days. I'm sure I'll be that way in July if I can make it to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.

So, yeah, I think DDR has changed my life socially, with the positives outweighing the negatives. E1.gif

I found Mook and Pyroblaze on here. I knew them before I joined the freak boards. I knew them from my work. How I found them....That's a complicated story....I found Mook first then Pyroblaze.

Mook is the complicated story. So many clues.

Pyroblaze saw me posting on the forum and told me who he was. I was known as "Tifaddrharkins" back then. Way back in May.

Wow, that was almost a year ago.

I've met PPPunkbuster and mcv2 at Mesa Golfland like in December. Both of them. PPPunkbuster I met first then a few weeks later I met mcv2. Both of them are very nice people.
