No, it's not a myth.

I have managed to render one of my MyMyBox metal pads completely inoperative, and I have completely shattered two different arrows on another one (and that was AFTER the sheet metal mod).

I have discovered that any metal pad will be excellent, however, if you MAINTAIN them. That means opening up the arrows every couple of weeks (of very heavy play for a couple of hours a night like I used to do) and cleaning them up, reattaching the sheet metal mods if they're coming loose, tightening the screws that hold the pad together, etc. Any pad that uses foil tape based contacts should be modded with sheet metal (an easy and inexpensive mod) before you ever use it, and if you plan to use the pad on heavily padded carpet, having it either in a wooden box frame (ask me for details if curious) or on a sheet of plywood is a good idea.

So yes, it is completely possible to destroy a metal pad. However, if you take care of it, like so few people are wont to do, then whatever one you have should work fine. I've had my MyMyBox pads for well over a year now, and with regular maintenence, they work great.

Hello. I was just wondering if these pads on ebayhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3080501202&category=21185 were one of those cg/gd pads or not. I read through the first nine or so pages of this thread and i gave up looking. (the search feacture wasn't much useful in this case either) I heard those cg pads were bad. These pads dont look like cg pads 'cause the panels in the middle and bottom left and right are shiny (not white). Any help would be totally awesome. Thanks

Those are BNS pads.
I bought one off discount-auction and my feeling/guess is that he (the seller) works for or owns buynshop.com (look over his previous usernames, the first one or second was buynshop.com).
The pad rocks, I put a review of it a few pages back with sheet metal mod info for it.
Buy it if you don't want to spend the money on a CF, I bet you will be very pleased. I love my BNS pad I think it's awesome and am buying a 2nd one soon.

Well I guess that depends who you ask.

I have heard both wonderful and very bad comments regarding this model.

Some say that it is no better than the cheap metal pads that breaks without warning - and others think it is by far the best pad they have ever played on.

The great comments I have heard all come from Europe - where we havenĀ“t got the Cobalt Flux - yet E1.gif - maybe that is why...

If you buy one I would suggest that you give it the plate metal and carbonate mods - after that you should be just fine...

I just purchased the Red Octane Metal Pad. Is that a good one? Is there anything I should to make it better or last longer?

ok, I'm trying to decide wha metal pad to buy. I can't really afford the cobalt, so I'm thinking of going with http://www.komusa.com/komusa/pldaremearpl.html that one. But, is that a mymybox, or is it some other brand? I'm a little confused. It looks the same as the one on _ter's page, but I thought I read back in this thread that it was something else.[/url]

i got a quick question for ya zero. have u ever actually PLAYED on a cf? because if u had, you would not be so happy with bns/ro/and mymycrap pads. i was playing at my friends house and broke his damn bns pad on accident when i first started playing. i moved on to a modded soft pad, which is better than playin on a mymybox because the steps actually respond. then i got a cf 4 months ago. it is the best i have played on. i like it better than the arcade. the buttons are sensitive, and that pad is just about indestructable. go on, try to break it. you will go thru 10 bns or ro pads in the time a cf would last you. think about that while considering your options.

ok, this is to express my eternal love for cfs.

about a year ago, i stopped playing ddr. my interests went elsewhere. my friends all made fun of me for blowing >$800 on ddr (huge chunk of that my 2 cobalt fluxes).

about a week ago, i started playing ddr again. you have no idea how happy i am that i bought and kept my cfs. they still work like new, i've never had a problem the warranty didn't cover (it's expired now though...) and all around just great.

pretty much the only problems with cobalt fluxes are that if you play at home a lot then go to the arcade you'll look stupid because you'll be used to the sensitivity of the cfs. they are without a doubt more sensitive than any arcade at which i've played.

buy them.

EDIT: oh and if you can't afford them, don't complain because i'm certain almost all of you have bought tons of poopy pads in the past. you should have bought a cobalt flux.

here's how to afford a cobalt flux: 1. don't eat. too much money. 2. don't sleep, work nights. 3. don't buy poopy pads 4. if you go to private school/college/grad school, drop out. 5. whore yourself out to 300 fat chicks for a buck a piece. or 1 really fat chick for 300 bucks. (any family guys fans?)

ok, just save up. it's worth it.

Has anyone bought the BNS pads for X-Box or PC use? If so, what adapter did you use? I need to know because I just bought 2 BNS pads from E-Bay, and I want to use them with both Ultramix and stepmania (I'm glad I got them when I did.... I got the last 2 that were 89.99 instead of 99.99 E1.gif ). Also, I plan on doing the sheet metal mod, but I was wondering what type of metal to buy. Does copper work, or should it be something else (steel, aluminum?)

Has anyone heard of any other problems with these pads that I should be prepared to deal with? I just want to prepare myself, because I've already made my decision for my pads, and I want to be able to fix them if there are problems.

To answer your question ~ no I've never played on a Cobalt Flux.
However, it's impossible IMO to claim ANY home pad as "better than the arcade". If my BNS pad gives me problems I believe I'm competent enough to repair it; as for the sensitivity or how it feels, well it works for me. I don't give a sheist if it only cost me $100 rather than blowing a wad on a CF, I still get A's or AA's on the majority of the Heavy songs I play which is what I score in the arcade. Again ~ works for me.

As for options, most people (including myself) are more cost-conscientious and I would rather buy a BNS pad rather then pay the money upfront for a CF pad considering everything else that my job pays for. An apartment, insurance, a car, utility bills, cell phone, etc. Priorities...

I use my BNS pad with Stepmania 3.9a7 with a EMS USB2 and it works perfectly. No delay, no lag in hitting an arrow on the pad and having Stepmania register it. I haven't bought an Xbox adapter for it yet, but I'm sure for not too much more you could buy a Red Octane Ps2/Xbox control box for $24 which should work with the BNS pad. (However I don't know for sure.)
