I'm curious why you are not considering the BNS DX pad? They are half the price of Red Octanes and virtually identical, if not better. I bought two several months ago (mainly due to posts on this forum). Mine are still working flawlessly and have zero damage or defects (inside or out). I play in socks and my skill level is currently maxed at 7-8 footers on standard or heavy (DDRMax for PS2). As was mentioned in another post concerning the BNS pad: Any mistakes that I make in a song, I can be 100% confident that it was my fault and not the fault of the pad.
I have avoided hard pads so far due to the shoe issue. I find it harder to do steps and I tire much faster while wearing shoes. I'm not sure if I want my feet/knees to endure the impact of DDR on hard surface without shoes. If I do ever decide to "upgrade" to a hard pad, I wouldn't hesitate to go for the BNS hard pad. |

Reason why I would not recommend BNS DX Pad is because it broke on me just a couple days ago. I had that pad since Christmas [of 2003]. When I get a Boo, I realized that I stepped on the arrow. I tried again and I conclude it was the pad's fault.
If you have the money, get CF! But if you cannot afford it, get BNS DX [possibly with warranty] and save up the money to get CF.

"Yep, make sure to pocket all that money, because you will need it in about 4 months when the contact system is fully deteriorated"
ITS SO TRUE ahahahaha sorry but i do feel bad for ignition users because honestly youd be better off buying a 3rd party pad and mounting it on wood
Cobalt flux IS the ultimate as for the first reply i played in socks no problem but it IS recomended you wear shoes they even say that use some common sense and youll be fine
*You will not regret a cobalt* |

After reading these posts I took a look at the inside of my red octane ignition 2.0, which I got for Christmas, and play heavy 1 hour a day about 5 days a week. The underside of the arrows are tearing, and it is now registering the center as right or up often (I know, don't stand on the center, I don't.) Since I'm having a hell of a time with 16th+ notes registering correctly on a soft pad, and my red octane isn't going to last much longer, it's time to order my CF. Bottom line, if you play heavy (I started on light in december) then you'll shred the RO.
funny how it is breaking after the warranty period. |

Yes, last year I got Ignitions and they worked fine...for about 3 months, then they became crap. I just got a CF last week, and it is excellent. No, it isn't arcade perfect (namely in reference to the flatness of all the arrows...that takes getting used to...) but it is very strong, sensitve and durable. Playing in your socks will hurt your feet, but that is also true of the arcade. In shoes, it is only as loud as your steps...so if you step lightly, it is quiet. I have yet to play on a better home pad personnaly; most of the ones that people make are crap that feel too soft and flimsy.
(Somewhat off topic) And I see all of these people who talk about how durable thier pads are compared to the CF, but the CF has a 600+ pound weight limit and has been run over by a Ford Explorer and still worked fine...it is a very durable pad, needless to say. If you have not done so already, get a CF. _________________

My cobalt flux pads are 10x better than any soft pad out to date. it is by far, the most responsive and arcade feeling pad on the market. It's most definatley worth the money. _________________

And how about the RedOctane metal pad?
I just got mine in about 5 minutes ago, haven't had time to try it yet, but I'll keep everyone informed on how it works, since I've heard a lot of questions about it. |
