Myth:

False

The reason people usually tease people is because they look really stupid doing something, and they are trying to help that person not look stupid... that or having fun at another person's expense. I love it how whenever someone gets teased for something, they automatically put themselves on a plateau above everyone else to make themselves feel better.

I have not been called a homo because I play DDR, but one of the guys at work says, and I quote, "Only Japanese kids and gay kids play DDR." Let me be the first to say that I am neither gay nor asian, and I have a whole bunch of friends that play DDR as well. So there all you critics.

My favorite reply to the "ddr is gay, so you're gay" name-calling stupidity: "You seem to know a lot on that matter... is it from personal experience, or just rejection from an old crush?"

I know, replying may not be the wisest thing, but do I want to be wise all the time?... I think not. Oh well, nobody's perfect...

I actually have noticed quite a few homosexuals playing DDR. I honestly don't worry about it 'cause I don't have a problem with anyone for anything, but I think that a lot play DDR simply beacuse it's something that 1) exerts energy (a LOT of gay people I know end up being frustrated about things more often than heterosexuals), 2) gives them a sense of community (in case you haven't figured it out, DDR players tend to be VERY close-knit) and 3) is something that lets them not be inhibited by too many limits (not trying to be funny, but showing off in a crowd kind of lets off the whole "flamboyant" thing...I don't know whether that's true of gay people, but it would help explain why there seem to be a lot playing DDR).

"Why do I get made fun of?" Because you are stomping on something that makes loud noises and flashes bright lights, you are the center of attention and doing something really stupid looking. These people aren't gay bashing, they aren't using a pop culture word to describe someone that is doing something completely off the wall stupid. Example: "What the fuck are you doing faggot?" That could be doing said tosomeone nailing streamers to a park bench while wearing a World War II helmet.

While there is no direct correlation between DDR and homosexuality, there is alot of annoying magic card playing, no shower taking, and anime watching losers that ruin it for the rest of us. Gay people play DDR, straight people play DDR, but what destroys it all is the supreme nerds that make it their life with "OMG BEMANI!" Most people have bad experience with nerds, be it smell, bad conversation, or just plain social ineptitude. Someone probably tried to talk to some train wreck of a normal person wearing a two sizes too big Neon Genisis Evangelion shirt with bleach stairs on the lower back and realized "Woah, this kid is hella gay. All kids that play this are hella gay."

Thats what I think.

That's either the best trolling I've seen in a long time or you're just an bumhole.

I mean, you do realize you're posting on a site called DDR Freak, right?

I'd say trolling. It has that "adequacy.org" feel when you read it. For those not knowing what adequacy.org is, it was dubbed "the site for grown-ups", or "the most controversial site on the web". It was, in fact, a HUGE trolling site made by people who wanted a good laugh at the gullable's expense. The ingredients were simple: lots of arrogance, falsified facts, exagerated use of typical stereotypes, all of them written in a manner that makes you believe that the author really means what he writes. And the rest follows through... KyleLee's post has that kinda feel...

Anyway, back onto topic... there is not that much people acting like that... well, not as much as there was before. Probably because DDR is gaining in popularity in North America. 'Sides, the name-callers end up looking like the names they call. Someday, they'll learn... maybe..

i know 0 gay ppl that play, and only 1 lesbian that plays...

i havent been called gay, ive only been called a freak, a maniac, DDR freak E4.gif ..and stuff to do with them not being able to move feet at a 9-foot pace...

maybe the whole "gay" thing comes from the 2 pink arrows...but then again....no..

come to think of it...theres no real reason to be called "gay" when you are playing DDR... maybe, as someone said before, its because they cant do it, they want attention, and because they cant do what you do, they call it gay, therefore providing a reason for not playing (and possibly humiliating themselves)

uhh... how old are you? I'm 18 and I haven't heard a single 'gay' comment about my playing DDR. In fact, I only know a couple people my age who even use 'gay' or 'bundle of sticks' as an insult anymore, and there's no way any younger kid would say something like that... I'm fairly intimidating, I like to think. Gey bashing went out of style in grade 9. Then again, I've been called an 'azn' or a 'wannabe-azn' a few times while playing DDR, but that doesn't bother me.

Also, how good are you? If you're failing 4 footers than I can see why they could be laughing--it looks much easier than it actually is, and seeing someone mess up a seemingly easy song results in their flames (no pun intended).

And for them gay = stupid/uncool. Doesn't mean anything about homosexuality.

Hump. DDR. Gay. I don't think so. No one every told me that i was gay when i played it, but while i was watching someone play it, some guy said that it was. I went up to the guy and said "you wouldn't know if it's gay untill you've tried it!?" That's so true.

I have met a couple gay DDR players in my area, and some questionably flamboyant ones. I think that in any highly social hobby your bound to meet different people though, it's kind of like being surprised of any person of race/orientation/beliefs does anything, and that's pretty much it.

And yeah, they're just calling you gay to make you feel bad, or they're like me an use the word "gay" as a replacement for "stupid".

This thread is gay and so is that sig. Who has a pile of poopy for an avatar?

But anyway I dare someone to call this game gay. If I see someone fronting about the game it's only when they are with friends and they do it to other people.... but it's always to people I hate. If it was someone I liked I'd stand up for them.
