I was going through Stepmania yesterday, and I noticed something: about 80% of my favorite songs of the same BPM (in this case, 170). Anyone else notice BPM trends, or can at least explain if this is some reason for this?

It probably just means you're more comfortable playing faster BPM songs. I myself don't have a preference, I go by how the song sounds, not how slow or fast it is. Stuff like bag I still think sucks, only because of how bad it sounds, not of how slow it is.

I've noticed too that there are a lot of songs that are at 170 BPM. Actually, I think this '170 BPM trend' seems to be a related to Konami-exclusive songs and their remixes....

Boom Boom Dollar: 135 BPM
BBD K.O.G G3 MIX: 170 BPM

Brilliant 2 U: 150 BPM
B2U K.O.G G3 MIX: 170 BPM

Burnin' the Floor: 155 BPM
BTF MOMO Mix: 170 BPM

Can't Stop Fallin' In Love: 155 BPM
CSFIL Speed Mix: 170 BPM

The list goes on, but you can see my point. I guess Konami thinks that 170 BPM is a good speed for 'fast' songs or remixes... erm.gif

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

I just keep my songs as close to 300 as possible without going to far over. I don't care how fast it is, it will be 300.

170 bpm is the standard "speed mix" tempo. Almost anything that is a "Speed(y) Mix", "Grandale Mix", "Momo Mix", "B4 Za Beat Mix", or "K.O.G. G3 Mix" whose original is less than 170 bpm is 170 bpm.

My preferred tempo seems to be 140, the standard trance tempo.

Telephone Operator is 145....but I'm guessing you mean songs that have an original and a remix in the game.

Assuming that you're talking about your original sim edits...that's a terrible way to make originals. A song's BPM should be its actual BPM; uselessly fast songs are just aggravating and seem amateur.

Yeah, that's what I told Konami about Max Period, but they told me to just shut up and dance E4.gif

But I think the guy was talking about what speed mods he uses, not his edits...

63 bpm for life E9.gif

I actually am a big fan of happy hardcore and faster stuff, so 170 is an excellent bpm imo, but i always have a spot for bimp.
