Does anyone have any pictures of the innards (screws out, and buttons lifted off) of the CF pad?

I am just kinda curious how the buttons work..

Are they just slightly oversized top peices that are screwd in forcing the corners closer together so it 'bows' out a bit, or is there something else that causes the 'popping' feel on them? Also, what is the point of the velcro inside?

I havent seen inside of one yet (my friend has one, but doesnt want to take it apart) and I have some very good homebuilts I use (I like them much better than the CF)

I am just curious how the buttons work in that particular pad, and I seriously think I may be able to improve drastically on the design, and post up improvements.

Thanks,
Jason

It's basically just a sheet metal on sheet metal. Sheet metal is placed on a wooden board, then velcro is put on the corners of the sheet metat, then they get another piece of sheet metal and put velcro circles on the corners of that piece too, then you just place the too pieces on top of each other and they'll be very close to each other, but not touching. The velcro sticks the sheet metal together, it kind of acts like the foam in other pads, except it doesn't expand, instead the CF just bends back to normal after pressed.

Thanks... That is pretty much exactly how my home built pads work, though mine seem to be much more sensetive than the CF.

One more question, do the screws run all the way through? I cant really see where the screws go through in those pics. also, I heard that one of the metal peices are kinda bent so it has that 'popping' feeling. Could you tell me a bit more about that?

Anyways, thank you very much for answering my question E1.gif

I bent the sheet metal on some of my arrows just because I do get more responsive feelings out of them. I would've liked to build my own metal pad but I seriously lack the supplies or even the tools to take on any task like that, especially soldering. CF was just the best way to spend my pay check a few months ago.

Is the actual metal bowed out on the pads, or is there something else? on my friends CF, all the buttons are bowed out a bit.

Also, I take it the screws go right into the MDF. It seems to me like they would pull out of the MDF over time, but I am not sure.

MDF? The panels are bowed slightly upward. The screws go through the lexan, through the sheet metal, through the velcro on the top sheet metal (the one with the decal), and then through the second velcro which leads the screw into the wood base.

MDF is short for 'medium density fiberboard'

Its what the wood base of the CF appears to be made out of.

it is some pretty strong stuff, and very easy to work with E1.gif

Basically what I am doing is building myself a CF clone right now with some major improvements to hook up to my stepmania system that is in a ddr cabinet (When i got it the mainboard was fried, so I just threw a computer in ther and am running stepmania.) I dont have the arcade pads, and dont nessicarily like them anyways.

I have been using some polycarbonate pads I designed and built, but they kinda look blah, and I like how the CF pads look, and how low profile they are. I just dont like how they 'feel', so I am pretty much redisigning and building a couple for my personal use E1.gif

I will post pictures after I am done (I have been taking pics every step of the way)
