I think I may have a similar question... I've been watching a lot of people and videos of people playing and I'm kind of perplexed. I've noticed that one handed player’s just play on either side, but people who use two hands are almost always playing on the right. What’s up with that? Is there some inherent advantage on the right side? The only thing I can think of is that a right handed individual would find it easier to move back and fourth between the keys and the turntable... did I just answer my own question? erm.gif

Just ordered my IIDX stuff... must wait for mail to come... drool.gif

It's 100% just a personal preference issue. There are plenty of good two-handed players that play on the left side. PXY and RTMN for example.

Ya I figured I should just stick with the left side, which will probably be the best for me. I guess I'll see when it comes.

I'm so excited! Can't wait to start playing!! From what I've read and seen I won't be able master beatmania in a few months. (duh E15.gif ) *cough*ddr*cough* I love a good challenge and this certainly looks like one. E4.gif

One more question. Do you get pretty worn-out from playing a lot of hard songs? It’s not like tapping keys (a lot of keys O_o) can make you that tired, can it? Hah, probably sounds like such a goofy question, but I've gotten to a point in DDR where all I care about anymore is consistantly AA'ing 9/10 footers. Being really tired, sweaty and hot after every few songs is not my idea of fun anymore. E15.gif

What's the main difference between IIDX and Beatmania? Also, do all controllers have the keys on the left side and the turn-table on the right? Is this difficult to play with for right handed people? Where can I find a song list for the different IIDX styles and beatmania mixes? Also, as myself never having played this game, would you recommend five key or should I just go for the seven? Also, where can I find some PS IIDX styles? I don't have a modded ps2 so I can't get the ps2 ones. Thanks.

Beatmania = 5 keys, turntable only on left side. If iI had started on that side I prolly could be good with a left side turn table (Im right handed). Beatmania is also only on PS
IIDX = 7 key, turn table on either side. Better graphics, but less diversified song list. Look on this site for the songs for both versions. Its also only for PS2.

By affect I mean alter my ability to read arrows rather than notes. My eyes are used to reading arrows in four columns, if I get really good at IIDX, then my eyes will get used to reading small flat notes in seven columns. I was wondering is this could affect my DDR performance.

it will probably neither add nor detract to your DDR-reading ability.

This has probably already been answered... But...

It's been noted that IIDX is much harder than the original Beatmania. However, I don't know if this refers to the maximum difficulty level, or overall difficulty level. In the FAQ it states that the 5th and 6th styles have beginner modes, making it good for all play styles... But all beginner's mode means to me is having one mode with really easy songs; It's conceivable the other difficulty levels make a huge jump, with no gradual transition of playing ability.

A shorter form of this question is: Would it be an OK idea to start on IIDX, or is starting with the original Beatmania a much better plan?

And here's another question: Is the IIDX controller compatible with the original Beatmania?

People with beatmania skills have almost just as hard at time adjusting to 7 keys than people with no beatmania skills. Id just start on IIDX.

I've had no past experience with IIDX and I'm wondering wether I should get 5th, 6th, or 7th style. I hear 5th is great for newbs, but I don't want to get an old mix with no so good songs (I think that 6th and 7th will have better songs and more songs that I have heard from DDR and stuff (Max300, Gravity, Dynamite Rave, etc.)). So I have some questions:

Exactly how hard is 6th Style for beginners? The whole beginner mode, is it basically like the beginner mode in DDR where all the songs have extremely easy steps (in the case of IIDX, notes)?

How hard are the songs without beginner mode (how many stars and how hard would they be like to beginners)?

Where can I find a song list for both 5th and 6th Style?

Where can I pre-order 7th Style?

Where can I find IIDX videos so that I can get used to it (I've only seen like 2 videos of the game in action)?

Should I play with my left hand on the turn-table and my right on the keys or should I only play with my right hand on the keys (I'm right-handed and I fingers are used to fast movement (I play stepmania 11 footers and I can type pretty fast))?

When I get the game, it's going to be my first time playing it, so I will probably go through the Lesson Mode. Since the game is japanese, will the lesson mode be of nearly no help to me (Since the game is Jap, are it's explanations on how to play the game and some tips difficult to comprehend and are they useless because it's Japanese?)?

Last question, which mix would you recommend to a beginner?

IIDX songs are WAY better than DDR songs. Usually the DDR songs are crap compared to the IIDX songs. Taking that out of the equation I say getting 5th, 6th, or 7th are all good choices. They all have beginner mode so itll make them easy to get into. 6th style and 7th style have lots of eurobeat if you happen to like that genre.

The next thing up from beginner mode is Light 7 and for the most part its hell trying to get good at the game. Stick to beginner mode til you can beat every/nearly every song in it. It should only take about a day or to to complete. Take in mind that the learning curve for IIDX is STEEP. So you WILL suck for a while compared to mostly everyone else. But beginner mode makes getting good a lot faster.

Beginner mode is like DDR in that you get easier note patterns.

Most players play two handed with the scratch on the left side. Play with whatever is comfortable and whatever technique serves you best.

Bemanistyle has tatsujin videos of people playing IIDX.

You can pre-order 7th style at www.playasia.com

This site has song list.

Lesson mode is very helpful actually. Just go in order and you should be fine for transitioning into either beginner or even Light 7. The later missions however have specific goals and you may need to know some japanese for those. But by that time you should be good enough for atleast Light 7.

I never used Lesson mode by the way and jsut used beginner.

BTW they are called style not mixes. People will be confused if you refer to them as mixes.

Oh yea almost forgot, you should play with HISPEED ON, and AUTO SCRATCH OFF. Also don't play 5 key.

I forgot about the mix thing (In my post I first started saying Style, but after editing it a couple times I accidently typed mix).

So, do you think I should get 6th or 7th?

What's Tatsujin mean?

Where are the Tatsujin videos in the Media section of bemanistyle? I remember seeing them before but now I can't find them. I don't want to waste my tokens on the other videos which usually turn out to just be background videos showing no gameplay at all.

What does HISPEED do?

Tatsujin = Skillful person AKA people who are experts. Most people are sick of 6th so get 7th.

HiSpeed spreads the notes out (like 1.5x and stuff in DDR) and just about everyone uses it. All it does is make you better.

Really doesn't have the song lists (I'd like to see a list for HHMCM2 E4.gif ) and I'm a little sketchy to read it when it says Beatmania - The Final! (Coming soon! And the arcade IIDX goes only to 7th E13.gif

I'm still rather new to IIDX but let me say that Drill mode on 6th style home version has really really helped with my play even on beginner mode (which I still fail songs regularly). I strongly suggest that noobs start there even before beginner mode.

I've found myself immensely frustrated to the point of screaming obscenities at the screen but in the end when I get that little dot to turn yellow indicating a full combo I feel damn good about it.
