Dreamcast has like 16mb of ram or something?
The minimum for StepMania is 64mb.
It wouldn't even load halfway with no songs
Don't count on a hardware demanding simulator like StepMania being ported to DC os PS2, maybe something like DWI or pyDDR?
Seriously though. Why do you need stepmania when you can create swap cds with Feet of Fury?

If you need more help on converting your DWI's to FoF format, go to their forum:

Ok, first off, feet of fury is a homebrew game by Dan Potter. What you have is a beta version, dan later went on to publish a better version with more features, songs, etc, and its for sale on lik-sang.com. Now, as for the dreamcast burning, in order for this to work, someone would have to port this over to the dreamcast. As a programmer myself i can tell you this would take a good while since stepmania relies heavily on Direct X. Plus considering the dreamcast is a 200 mhz system, this means in order for it even be playable it would have to be optimized for the SH4 processor, therefor it would need a major overhaul to run. Now, its possible someone COULD port it over, however, i highly doubt youll see this done since Feet Of Fury already supports .dwi files. And with the commercial version of feet of fury, you can turn off all those crazy mods and make it almost 100% like DDR. You can burn a swap cd for use with feet of fury, however, there a bit complicated to make.
But to sum up this whole post: It wont happen for quite awhile. All the good dreamcast homebrew dev'rs are already involved in other huge projects, such as shzero's snes emulator which, as of my last beta run with it, was already faster than dreamsnes. Anyway, if you really want to discuss this further, talk to the guys who still dev for the DC over at dcemulation.com.

EDIT as i was typing this was posted. the only way it would run on the DC is IF each song / banner was loaded indivually as you moved through the screens / song select wheel / options / game / etc.. and each time the ram would need flushed. Plus the sheer amount of time it takes to optimize something for the SH4 processor is insane, take a look at Bleemcast! by Rand Linden, himself and his crew of dev'rs spent over a year making 3 PSX games run on the DC, imagine how long it would take for ONE person to do the same for stepmania. Its probably NEVER going to happen, and honestly, doesnt need too. Feet Of Fury can already do pretty kick arse ddr simulation |

another one of these threads? Puh-leeze.
Stepmania will only run on PC-like machines (PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox)
Unless you want to program it (and good luck! ) it will not appear on anything else. |
