Anyway, yeah so I took a break from DDR, and now I'm getting back in to it. I want the scene here to spice up, any ideas? I know throwing a tournament would be one, but sponsorship is low, and so are freestylers. |
This is the freestyle tips thread, if you didn't notice the title. Not the "Spice up your DDR area". I'd think the best way for you to find out how, is possibly talk to the people in your region. _________________

Writing instructions for you doesn't show much innovation. I suggest you take a look at some videos. Some are in the "Post your videos" thread floating around this same forum. And see what people do in those. _________________

Ah, but FS does spice up any DDR area, hence it belongs here!
Unless of course you suck. ^0^ _________________

Yocanada!
Or anyone for that matter... can someone point me in the direction of a good source of music just to practice dancing (in general, not DDR related... well not primarily) to? We got no good radio stations that play dance music around here and I don't really know what kinda stuff to look for in the CD aisle at Worst Buy :[ _________________

Oh SNAP.
Well, I can hook you up on AIM with some good stuff..
Some of the better artists:
Jamiroquai, Basement Jaxx, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method (mainstream goodness)
DJ Shadow, Kid Loco, Unkle, Jurassic 5, Deltron 3030 (any trip hop/rap you can pop to, assuming you like rap)
and Spiller - Groovejet rocks any dance track you'll ever hear. _________________

I've been freestylin' for a while, and I've always been wondering, if you're in a tourney, would any of you wear fanciful clothing like a hat, or vest, or jacket, to make you a bit more... flarey? _________________

I just dress up nice...a button-up shirt that I leave open, dark jeans, shined tennis shoes, etc. I shave (most of the time ) and that's about it.
I never wear costumes. I'm one who doesn't like costumes, even if it's to represent the style of the song.
My $1.00 - $0.98

Dang, someone is munchin on hater tots. Anyway, I usually wear something that looks like something out of a music video. Umm last tourney i wore some blue jeans, adidas classics with red stripes, a long sleeve red ecko shirt with white lettering and a visor with the same theme.
I was thinking...
If you have a bunch of pre set moves to certain arrow patterns, but can do it on any song. Is that still improv, or what? Because thats what I do. if i see an arrow pattern coming up, I'll do a move i've rehearsed over those steps. Is that improv or is it routine? _________________

This is a good thread; I've been meaning to try freestyling out for a long time, but never was coordinated enough, but these tips seem to help a lot =) _________________

Someone showed me that today... frickin nice!
It's got some nice moves you could copy down. Check out the house & lock/hip hop models for some generic moves and stuff. I feel like I've improved already XD _________________

Hey, I was debating wether to ask this in General gameplay, or 'Freestyle Tips' so I decided to post here.... What difficulties do you guys FS on? Like, how many feet, Light, Standard or Heavy? Stuff like that.... It's gotta be sparse enough to flare up a bit, but not to boring.... where are you guys at on this? _________________

Beginner or Light mainly...usually higher if there's a way to get less steps with the Little mod.
Basically just remember this.
Less steps = better. The more gaps you have in the steps, the more time you have to make it that much more impressive. _________________

well yeah, but.... You could have a song with one arrow at the begining, and one at the end, and you would have the whole two minutes without arrows, just to FS right? But that wouldn't be as impresive would it? _________________

No...but nobody does that here, except people who aren't skilled enough to incorporate arrows into their routines. And even then, why would they be wasting their time with DDR anyway? =p
Spin the Disc - one of the top freestyle songs, ever. Check the steps - see why everyone has done it at some point or another?
Midnite Blaze, Kind Lady - those steps = no. _________________

The best I can put it. |
And yet at the same time you have to be able to dance like you're on the pad...cause if you try to dance like you're not, chances are you'll fail the song. And that, my friend, is something that is not fun in a tournament
There's just some moves that work integrated onto the pad, and some that don't. Sometimes it's really hard even to do some basic moves without sacrificing some arrows. _________________
