I thought that it was like Pump It Up, since I saw that first, and an arcade employee told me about DDR after I saw PIU. |

I remember a forum I went to had a massive DDR craze about two or three years ago... at the time I thought it was some weird PS2 game with a plastic mat. My thoughts at the time were something like "A dance game? And you have to buy a dedicated controller for it? Oh yeah this one's going to fly". Except I thought it was called PPP, not DDR (they were talking about Para Para a lot at the same time as well).
Then when I first saw the arcade machine on holiday in America I thought "Right, like I'm going to pump $50 into this machine to get good at it..."
About half a year and by my estimate £700 later... |

I first heard about DDR while browsing IGNPSX.com and they had it as their lead article. I was familiar with Bust-A-Groove at that point and dismissed DDR as a cheap imitation. |

I knew what it was from the start. I started playing FFR and StepMania long before I've ever even heard of DDR. Plus I always saw people playing it at the boardwalk, and me thinking they were so awesome for beating a 7 footer. |
