Do you remeber what it was like the first time you tried DDR? How bad were you compared to now, or were you good from the get-go? |

Luckily, i got the first DDR game on PS1 before playing at the arcade. I played it so much, that when i finally saw a machine, i knew what to do. other people looked at me like
" THATS HOW YOU PLAY IT!"
I still sucked @ss though. _________________

yeah i remember. at first i had a dollar in my pocket and i was like WTF?? but i put my dollar in and pick beginner. i no most ppl who play are ussally like "Yeah i rock. i have no F***ing clue how to play but i'm still going to woop your @$$" but i wasn't one of those ppl. so then i pick the saints go marching in becuase it is the only song i no. after about my second fail i leave the arcade to go home. the next week i came back with like $10 and a really determand face on. then this little Asian(not AZN) kid comes up and says is this your first time? i say yeah but i'm pretty bad. he said "obviously" and we both laughed. the kids name was Jeff but i kept getting him confused with my other asian(again, not AZN) kid named James. they looked exactly alike. after the tournament ended i convinced jeff to hop on the pads and play. he was on light so it was a bit uneven but we had a good time, after all that's what counts right? so a little bit after we both needed some cash so i we got this kid named tyler(he is NOT asian or AZN and neither am i if you thought that.) and he gave us some $$ so then i say "dude i'll play with you. we both suck it'll be cool. he said sure put in some money and we played. at this point i was just about at the end of my beginner career and moving on to light mode. after we played i had to leave but jeff and tyler played i think.
come to think of it i never did see Tyler of Jeff again. |

I remember failing Have You Never Been Mellow on Basic. I also wasn't sure about when you were supposed to step on an arrow... _________________

The first time I played DDR was in an arcade. Almost needless to say, I was bad at it. Unfortunately, at the time I was unaware there was a home version of the game, so the only way to practice was at the arcade, which I wasn't about to do. I left and didn't look back.
Many, many months later, a different arcade convinces me to get into it again. I buy DDRMax2 and vow to return to the original arcade once I'm good enough at the game. After a while I learn to pass a few heavy songs, at which point I finally do return to arcade to show the machine who's boss... And discover I had completely forgotten it was a Pump It Up machine.
I got a D on a level 2 song and lost a level 3 one in front of five people. |

My first DDR song was Overblast Basic. I actually passed it, because I saw my friend do it first, so I knew when to step. And, ya, of course I'm better now. _________________

I really sucked when I first started playing, I even failed Silent Hill in the 3rd Mix. I was that bad. But through time, I started getting better and better. It just takes time and practice. |

First time I played was at a restaurant that had an arcade in it. I played about $4 worth (at $.75 a turn). I wasn't absolutely horrible, by the time I left I had my first AA (on Beginner though...) _________________

My first song? Abyss on 5th Mix. I sucked bad, but I passed. It took me forever to learn not to go back to the middle after every step. I was hooked from the first song, though. _________________

Although I won't say that I was an expert right off the bat, I do remember that I knew how to play by watching someone else try first.
I first saw DDR when I was at GameWorks in Las Vegas a few years back (in '99, if I remember correctly). It was a 2nd Mix, and when I saw the game I was like "WTF is that?!" THen I saw this guy jump on the machine and play. He wasn't super-impressive (was playing on Basic), but it was enough to peek my interest. So I used my card and played with a friend; we both picked Basic on Boom Boom Dollar. Passed it my first try with a B. I tried another song afterwards (can't remember if it was Kung Fu Fighting or Stomp To My Beat). Failed. But ever since I was hooked, and was determined to learn more about this new game...
The rest is history... _________________
