Uhh, hey. I'm probably going to get laughed at for asking this, but do people use and distribute MP3s and stepfiles for songs that are copyrighted? My guess is "yes" but I'm really, really new to the Stepmania thing. |

Ah, because I did stepfiles for a few (C)ed songs ("Hungry like the Wolf," "Self Control") and I don't know if I should distribute or not. |

Go for it.
Distributing simfiles with copyrighted songs may not be strictly legal, but it's not like you're making any money off of it. If anything you're helping the artists by providing extra publicity. (a negligible amount, granted)
Just don't distribute simfiles with full-length versions of the original songs! Be sure to edit them down to the standard 1:30 or whatnot. Otherwise you ARE hurting the artists because then people can have themselves their music without paying for it.
But a 1:30 or 2:00 clip is okay IMO. DDR songs that surpass 2:00 are ultra dull anyhow.
That's my civil disobedient take on it.
On another note, I hear Duran Duran got back together recently? |
