Dancing monkeys seriously needs a readme...
Don't trust dancing monkeys to do your work, its g'nasty and only does single speed songs, lest you want it to crash. Nice idea, but it needs a lot more refining...

I'm having a problem with a Stepmania/DWI file. I'm creating it with Stepmania. Whenever I start the song, one arrow goes by and then it closes and says cleared. How can I fix this? _________________

Are you sure that there's more than one step? Is the song Chariots of fire? Is there a semicolon after the first step? Any of these could be the cause of a premature ending.
Anybody have info on coding backgrounds? I've just learned how to rip DVD's (though I don't have the proper software yet), and I was thinking about taking the goldeneye N64 theme from tournamix 2 and throwing in action-packed background scenes from the movie. _________________

I'm making my first DWI, and I'm having a problem...Although maybe Stepmania just sucks.
Anyway, when I try to play it in-game, a window shows up saying that there are two DWIs in the folder, when there should only be one. And trust me, there's only one in that folder. Any ideas?
EDIT: Never mind, fixed it. All I did was remake the folder and retransfer the files. On that note, I've finished up the single steps. 3,6, and 8 foot. Of course, the song is only 13 seconds long, but still. _________________

How do you edit or cut down a song's length ? I'm making a DWI right now; the song length is abou 3:00, and I want to put it down to about 1:40. What programs should I use to edit the song length? _________________

Well, I'll tell you what not to use. Acid pro's demo or Gold Wave's demo. I spent an hour and a half with acid pro cutting a song down to length and making it transition well before I realized it wouldn't let me save. Same with gold wave though I tried saving first thing. I know this isn't answerting your question but I thought it might help considering the extrastage tutorial reccomends them.
Ahem: anyone have any info on coding background videos? _________________

No, Goldwave lets you save. Save As...Whatever.

Stepmania will automatically make the song a "long" version based off the MP3's length.
And, I actually have the same question as Shad there (about BPM). Although, Im about to reinstall Acid Pro and try another song. The one I originally wanted to do is only half-way working the way I want (though I may redo it with the more specific BPM acid pro gives me *shrug*) _________________

It's around 3 minutes I believe, though I'm completely guessing on that. I have Lateralus by Tool (which is a 9 minute song) and it's labeled as "Marathon" and takes up 3 song spaces =P _________________

Shad wrote: | Thanks. But does anyone know the exact length at which it switches from normal to long? I could only cut it down to 2 minutes without it sounding choppy. If that's too long, I might as well do the whole thing. |
I am not entirely sure on this. I edited a song down to 2:04 and it showed up as a one-staged song. I think the "long version" limit is 2:30 to 3:00. And songs that are around 4:30 to 5:00 are marathons. |

Michaela, Marathons are longer than what you stated.
I have String Machine, which is 4 minutes and 46 seconds and it is Long.
If you guys need a BPM finder, here ya go!

I'm working on my first sim, and I ended up using Cakewalk Pro Audio for figuring out the bpm and keeping the song on a steady beat. With Cakewalk I just set up the metronome and kept changing the tempo till I got one that was close enough. Then I took the audio and divided up at each measure in the song. With Cakewalk I could take a measure, stretch or shrink the audio the little bit I needed to keep it at a steady tempo.
The song I'm using is by a friend of mine, and it didn't stay at a nice even pace...but now it does. Works great!
I've only got the beginner steps done, but it's getting there. It's a lot of fun! I use Microsoft Image Composer to do the banner and background and stuff. |

How do I get the #DISPLAYTITLE: in a .dwi file to work in StepMania? I know this tag wasn't supported in older versions of StepMania. It must work in the newest version, though, since when I download songs like Sakura the title shows up as kanji in the scroll bar using just a .dwi file. When I make my own .dwi, though, I can't get displaytitle or displayartist to work. I even tried copying and renaming all the files from a song that worked into a new directory, and that didn't work either.
The first three lines of the .dwi I'm trying to get working look like this, with the file of the name given in the same directory as the .dwi and .mp3:
#TITLE:Shuo Ai Ni;
#DISPLAYTITLE:{SHUO AI NI-char1.PNG};
#ARTIST:Cai Yi Lin;
Thanks! |
